    Grain prices creeping up.

Saw yesterday that Brew UK's price for 25kg of Crisp MO is £44.10 (currently reduced to £39.69) Haven't bought for a year as I wound down to move house, and cannot believe the hike!!

    What to do post-boil?

I always use whole-leaf hops in a hop spider, 1/2 protafloc @10mins. Post-boil I create a strong whirlpool with a spoon then let stand for 20-30 mins. I chill using a counterflow so the wort is always full temp at this point. My wort out of the kettle is always very clear. I even empty the...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

I use AMS to get to pH and half a Campden tablet, ground and fairly pleased with my results. Once I'm happy with the rest of my processes I'll start adjusting water.

    Disappointing efficiency

Creating my own setup has added fun and a bigger sense of achievement to my brewing odyssey. I bought an old Buffalo G30 last year and with a clean-up, some mods and additions it's now a very effective all-in-one. More on that here.

    Pilsner or lager recipe..

Loving the recipes, just done my first pilsner using the following: 23ltr batch 3500g BESTMalz Pilsner 375g Wermann Carapils 30g Saaz @ 75 min 35g Saaz @ 15 min 2x pkts M54 Thinking of lagering for a couple of weeks then bottling. What do you guys use for priming when bottling?

    Disappointing efficiency

I'm doing all-grain in a custom-built all in one. I recently added a recirc pump and along with a less dense mash my BHE has definitely improved. Not sure how viable that is if you're BIAB but thought it might help.

    Best Pilsner in 6 weeks

Wow that is patience!! Not sure I'm looking to go that long but will definitely go for a couple of weeks. Looking forward to hearing about the darker version.

    Best Pilsner in 6 weeks

Mine is all Saaz, very interesting aroma during the boil and looking forward to it. Not sure if the malt has more sugar in it but it left a hell of a mess on the floor of the kettle, so much it tripped the safety a couple of times!!

    Stubborn haze!

I've been all grain brewing for a year or so now. I've used garden hops and commercial hops in different combinations, with S04, MJ M36 & M15 yeasts. I've standardised on half a protafloc tab in 25ltrs 10/15 mins from the end of the boil. In every case the wort has always run nice and clear...

    Best Pilsner in 6 weeks

I've just done a brew using the recipe @AlDaviz posted, which I'm going to bottle, but I'm interested in using the quick lagering technique. Will the beer still bottle condition OK after lagering?

    Klarstein v's Burco setup

The issue isn't the height per sé, it's that combined with the amount it protrudes into the boiler , which means it fouls the grain basket. Hence the cut-out. Add the coupler for the bazooka and it's worse I never use the bazooka as I always use a spider, so suppose I could cut off the thread...

How To Use Salifert Alkalinity and Calcium Test Kits

I'm in Kent/SE London too so these figures are v.interesting. @strange-steve thanks for brilliantly simplifying the water treatment process and sharing your output and knowledge. I ordered my Salifert kits today so putting them to action! I ordered mine from FPR Aquaric Spare Parts. The...

Burco cygnet or Ace 30l boiler?

I've put a piece together which details my odyssey having bought a second hand Buffalo last year. Hope it helps.

    Klarstein v's Burco setup

I thought I'd share my experience as I've learned a lot from this thread and want to give something back.. I bought a 2nd hand Buffalo 30ltr last year and went about converting it. First up came a tap conversion then a thermostat bypass with simmerstat (don't touch the cheap DPDT switches on...

    Klarstein v's Burco setup

I've not seen the Brewster Beacon before. It looks very solid and nicely made. Agree, the 100w increment idea is really neat. I'm looking at a Robobrew and this looks a good alternative, and unlike Robobrew stock availability doesn't seem an issue! What research did you do and what...
