    Great British Rail

The idea that nationalisation will increase wages in the long term is far from clear. After privatisation wages in the rail industry went up because it created competition between the rail companies for staff whereas before there was national pay bargaining. The industry is already so regulated...

    Quality bottling stick?

I've had two cheap plastic bottling sticks (I think they were made by Young's) - never had problem. Maybe you were just unlucky with the one you got? Not sure why being stainless steel would prevent leaks

Equivalent beer today would probably be about 30p Welcome to the forum Rob

    Greetings from the Netherlands

Useful to have a second fridge at Christmas (just don't butcher it!). Welcome to Jsmid. Temp control fridge was the best brewing investment I made

    Records

Wow, that's impressive list! I don't think I have all that many records that are valuable (except a couple of early Beatles records I inherited from my mum), partly because the stuff I had in my youth - some which might be worth something - is in less than pristine condition. That said, I am...

Maybe there should be a Betamax revival! Better picture quality than VHS, as my dad used to say to me as he sought to justify buying the wrong format!

    What is vinyl transcription??

    Records

.....You used to be able to pick up amazing records in charity shops and car boot sales, but the internet and the fashion for vinyl has ruined that. These days you only seem to see those easy listening records from the 1970s that must have sold in enormous quantities!

    Records

I have a fair bit of vinyl I've bought over the years, but it is far too expensive to buy new stuff nowadays for the most part. If I like something I feel like I want to physically own it (it makes me feel uncomfortable relying on the fact that it will always be there on some streaming service...

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

Ok, fair point about sloppy use of 'sterilised'. Should have said sanitised. Agree there is no one answer to this stuff. Just voicing an opinion.

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

It doesn't take long with a funnel and measuring spoon either, especially if I stopped sterilising them (which I'm too paranoid to do). I'm not sold on your gadget MashBag

    Here I am

Welcome! Nothing wrong with kits if you take care with the brewing process and buy ones you like.

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

I assumed one of the reasons for getting a zevro thing was that you didn't need a funnel. Is that not the case? If you are going to have to sterilise and dry a funnel you may as well use a measuring spoon I woikd have thought

    Beer kit enhancers

I think the Dave Line recipes use 60-100gm of molasses in his recipes. Sounds like less is more when it comes to treacle/molasses

    Hello world

    Hi there

    Beer kit enhancers

That Cooper's enhancer that is just sugar and maltodextrin seems like a very odd product. Sugar to thin it out, maltodextrin to give it body.

    Beer kit enhancers

Yes, I can see the logic in that. I used to use golden syrup for priming but in those quantities I don't think it added much flavour. You could also use regular dark sugar, maybe with some molasses to give it a bit more depth. Obviously that might not work in a pale ale or lager! With the beer...

    Beer kit enhancers

Thanks for the replies. There seems to be different types of enhancers. Cooper's has three, the first of which is just brewing sugar and maltodextrin; the other two also include some DME. Sounds like the dark rock one includes pure brew. Maybe it's the extras that make them a good buy (as well...

    Beer kit enhancers

I'm a bit surprised that people don't have views on this? My local homebrew sells a kilo of DME for £6.99. Young's enhancer is £6.50. the Cooper's engancer costs more than the DME, at £7.50. Maybe the difference in cost is generally higher than this which is why people use enhancers? Or...

    Beer kit enhancers

Hi all, In the past I've been an AG brewer, but in recent times have fallen into kit brewing for reasons of time mainly. I find I have got best results with the Muntons one can kit + 1 kilo of DME formula. Particularly big fan of the Yorkshire Bitter + 1 kilo of medium DME. My question is...
