First taste of cider when bottling

And I have to say... 'eeurrgh' It's very, err, sharp. I think that the taste is there but I definitely felt the string tugging on my eyeballs... I'm not sure that the small amount of Splenda I added is going to cut it as it's not the dryness but the acidity that the problem. I don't think...

Yeast nutrient in barm bread starter?

I'm just making a barm bread starter and notice that it's very similar to an ale starter (bar the yeast nutrient). Is it a good idea to sprinkle a bit of of YNB into it, or would it 'taste' the bread? I'd appreciate any advice as this is my first barm bread. TIA :)

    Blackberry Whisky

Thought I would put this here as this got me into the Homebrew bug a couple of years ago :) http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/gilberts-blackberry-whisky-recipe-422/ Mr R's work premises had some wonderfully sweet blackberries that I first made into jam and mixed some leftover berries with...

    Using beer bottles for wine?

I'm now about to bottle my hippy juice and one of my DJ's of apple wine, but I don't have enough wine bottles. I do however have more than enough beer bottles left over from bottling my Golden Stag. Also the 50cl size is better as Mr R and I aren't massive drinkers and can finish a bottle in an...

High tech low cost brewing toy.

For all techno brewers - How about this for your next project? http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/2129 A bit too much for me, but a kitted up Raspberry Pi will only cost you about 50 quid and you can get an old fridge on eBay. A Christmas present perhaps?

    Losing water from the airlock

Hi all! I've just started my first homebrew (Festival Golden Stag). It's started bubbling ( ), and is slow and steady but each release is so fierce that it's pushing the water out of the airlock! This has never happened with my wines (I'm sure I haven't over-filled the trap) but I'm...

    Another first time brewer.

Well I have started with apple wine, but to keep my husband interested in my new hobby I thought that I tackle my first brew today and so spent a happy afternoon starting Festival Golden Stag (hopefully) in time for Christmas. It looked a little darker in the FV than I expected but I'm sure it...
