    Extra Strong Pilsner ??

Thank you for the reply, its appreciated. I did buy a Fermentis Saflager S189 yeast to go with it. This yeast tolerates brews from 9/11% abv. Was planning on the lower alcohol end of the scale. Could always add the two generic yeasts that came with the kit ??

    Extra Strong Pilsner ??

Its been a long, long time since I have visited this site. Its good to see that its still here !! Its about 10 years since I last used a kit. The last one I made was a two can (toucan) 10% Russian Imperial Stout type drink with coffee. I don't drink much at all anymore, but I do enjoy a...

    Cobell Apple Juice Concentrates

I know this thread is about 5 years old but thought it would be better to add to it than start another. Has anybody recently used this concentrate. Do they still supply it to us homebrewers. Cheers

Total Sugar Per Gallon - Help Please.

I'm not usually right but think I might be this time. Just need somebody to confirm my workings before I add some yeast for pulp fermentation. Just about to make a couple of gallons of mixed fruit wine with the addition of a litre of pure grape juice and 250g of barley (crushed) per gallon...

    Barley/Pearl Barley

Cheers chaps. Ended up popping over to our local homebrew shop earlier and bought 500g for £2.99. Just after I picked up a sack of potatoes from a local farm produce shop and they had full 25kg sacks of the same stuff for £4.00. Asked him if he sells it by the kg and he said that he...

    Cleaning dirty old demijohns?

Have tried cleaning some right dirty caked on demis over the years. Used all sorts of cleaning agents which included sand swilled around as an abrasive and small metal chains for the same purpose. One of the best things I have used is good old bleach. A good squirt in a demi, topped up with...

    Barley/Pearl Barley

Was going to knock up a few gallons of a dried fruit wine this evening but I don't have whole barley for the recipe. Can I substitute whole barley for pearl barley which is widely available in supermarkets. Would there be much difference in taste. Cheers.

    Elderberry and Ribena port

I just finished making a 5 gallon batch of Port Wine a couple of days ago. The ingredients were a full 30 bottle Cabernet Sauvignon wine kit, dried elderberries, 8 pints of steam extracted blackberry juice from last year, about 3 pounds of fresh blackberries, bananas, grape juice, sugar, yeast...

Philip Hammond says there are 'no unemployed people'

I certainly did Ken. Was it a mistake. I don't know, we will see.

Philip Hammond says there are 'no unemployed people'

What I'm saying Ken is Farmers do not want English workers full stop. Whats the point advertising for workers through various agencies and Job Centres, knowing that they will have to interview every single person they employ, fill out form after form which includes ones for Housing Benefit and...

Philip Hammond says there are 'no unemployed people'

Nowadays these people on benefits who don't want to work might as well quit the benefit system and get a job instead of going through the hassle of claiming. As soon as they start a claim the wheels are in motion to get them off it as soon as possible. Modern day versions of 'Jobclub' start...

Philip Hammond says there are 'no unemployed people'

Absolute rubbish Ken. The real reason why Eastern Europeans work the fields is down to cheap labour, nothing more. I first came to Cornwall in 1990 to pick Daffodills in the fields. There were no Europeans back then, not in the flower fields, not in the veg fields, they were nowhere. We came...

Philip Hammond says there are 'no unemployed people'

Lots of Tory voters commenting I see. Do you really, really think that everybody on benefits or unemployed want to be there. What about the families where both parents loose their jobs through no fault of their own. Until 5 years ago I worked every single hour I could. Split shifts...

    Help on fermentation please.

Hi Lee, welcome to the group. Where are you in Cornwall, I'm down here in Camborne. Sounds like fermentation has finished already, nice one. Get this one bottled like you say and crack on with the next. Even though these wines are quick to ferment, it helps to let the yeast settle and...

    Port Wine Recipe PH Levels

Evening all. I have most of the ingredients together to start my second Port Wine recipe. The first one I made was a great success a couple of years ago but I want to make it better this time. The PH levels of the first attempt is something I never considered but my idea is that it will...

Back After A Long Time Away

Evening ladies and gents, Neil here from Cornwall. Been a long time since I have used the forum, must be 4 years at least since I was a regular user. Have lurked on occasion but life and kids got in the way and winemaking came to a virtual standstill. Never got rid of my equipment, been...

    Cool box mash tun

They really don't take that long to make. Once the coolbox is opened up it only takes 10 minutes or so to fill it will the foam. Once trimmed off and put back together, one of those silver backed camping foam mats make it look the business when made to fit and stuck on with spray glue.

For Sale - Totton Glycol Pump

I have this Totton Glycol Pump I bought from a member of this forum a few years back. Bought it as I was going to go down the AG route but due to circumstances it never happened. Don't know alot about it myself apart that its ideal for AG and will transfer hot liquids. I did actually sell it...
