    Homemade Apple Mulcher

Evening. I'm interested in cheap but effective methods to mash apples. Seen the old blade at the bottom of a bucket. Any alternatives that don't require a blacksmith to fabricate the blade?

    Elderberry Storage Advice

I am collecting elderberries to make a wine. I have collected 1/4 of what is needed so far but am unsure how to store them while waiting for me to collect the other 3/4. I will eventually freeze them because it'll be some weeks until brewday. Prior to freezing, should I: Wash them on...

New Meadery in Reading - Kickstarter Campaign

Hello, A good friend of mine is striking out on her own and opening to Meadery. To help with finances, she's got a kickstarter campaign going. Please take a look, support it if you can, and definitely pass it on to your friends...

Adding Less Water than Kit Says

Morning. I have a 30L FV (Youngs), but all the kits say to add 40L water. What would the effect be to add only 30L to brew the whole can? Also, its a single can kit. So, assuming I am adding ~10 litres less, should I add less dextrose/spray malt, or go the whole hog? Just curious. Shey

    Campden or Straight From Tap

Evening. I know much discussion has been had regarding campden/boiling of water and Chlorine. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a consensus to my question and so am asking. I would like to brew tonight from a Wherry kit. I forgot to boil/campden water last night to use now. What is your advice...

How Soon Can I Drink It?

First of all, apols if this is dealt with elsewhere. My initial search did not find an answer. Got an old can of bitter kit hanging about and want to chuck it in the FV tomorrow. Once fermentation is complete, I want to bottle 1/2 and the rest into the equivalent of a 1 gallon milk container...

    Enhancements to All-in-One Kits

This is inspired by something I read by Wez last night. He mentioned that he had got favourable results dry hopping a Woodforde's Wherry kit once. And that got me thinking... Anyone else taken an off the shelf kit and "enhanced" it? If so, what did you do and roughly (or exactly if you like)...

    Out of Curiosity

Some beers later... :?: Just wondering, if one made some beer and wanted to sell it, what does one have to do? Can anyone set up a brewery in their shed, turn out a few barrels, and sell them through the local pub? I'm assuming not, or we'd all be at it, but what the process. Happy weekend...

    Give it a stir?

As my blackberry wine ferments in its bucket, should I give it a stir at any time? It has been left to its own devices for the past 4 days.

How Long for Drinks & Other Questions

Hello With my blackberry wine firmly on the go, I have been thinking about the next brew. As a newcomer, my options were turbo cider or kit beer. I have opted for the kit beer. The reason  I like beer. As I gear up for this brewday I have a few thoughts. I am going to go for the...

What to do with spent grain

I didn't know if this should go anywhere else on the forum, but here will do. One of the blogs I read had a great idea for using spent grain in baking bread. http://www.fuggled.net/2009/09/caramel-60-and-chocolate-malt-bread.html Mmmmmm yummy.

    Hahaha Brewdog Hahahaha

After being criticised for creating the UKs strongest beer (Tokyo @ 18.2%) Brewdog have anounced their followup brew, Nanny State @ 1.1%. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/nor ... 278312.stm Made me laugh.

Brewery Review - Cains Brewery, Liverpool

A while ago I wrote about the Cains brewery tour. A very nice brewery with some fantastic beers. I would rip someone's arm off for a pint of their Finest Lager - a very flavoursome beer. I didn't know if I should post the whole article here or just link. So I will try the link first...

    Labels - How? What?

I have noticed on some threads that some of you make your own labels. I was wondering what do you use for the labels? Do you use regular office-style sticking labels that you put through a printer? Is there a recommended type? I have the small labels that you stick on boxes, and they will be...

My First Brewday - Blackberry Wine

Right. It's 9:30 on a Sunday morning. I've been thinking of this moment for weeks. And now, I can't get away from it... My First Brewday has arrived! Today I am embarking on a journey into making blackberry wine. Due to the amount of blackberries I have (sub 1kg) I am going to be using a...

    Small(er) Scale Brewing

Hello, I am gearing up to try brewing my first beer. Quite an exciting time really :thumb: At the moment, I have a 2.5 gallon (10 litre?) fermenting bin and a couple of 1 gallon demijohns. Space is at a premium in my home, so I want to avoid buying a 20l bin just yet. Sooo.... If I use a...
