Beer festival 4 beers and a cider?

Link here went yesterday, two bars, 8 miles apart, lovely trip between the two bars, but one end three beers, other end one beer and a cider on tap, not what I would call a beer festival, I travelled 1/2 mile to get there, and I know the three local pubs also have an event on, but no live music...

Cordial based cider, time and taste?

I bought a cider kit, the can did not contain the thick syrup normal with beer kits but a very watery liquid, so thought was any cordial would do instead, seems I did not consider what potassium sorbate and the brewing was as a result slow, so round two was to brew the sugar then add flavour...

I got it wrong again dad, temperature of brew, how important?

Wilko white wine kit, wife has worked out how to brew it, shame me into doing it, so temperature too high for a beer brew, want 19 to 20 degs C, but wine said 20 - 25 degs, so that seemed OK, however it started to raise reached 27 degs and I decided must do some thing, so dish cloths over the...

Cheap cider like beverage, is it likely to work?

My wife came home with a beer kit for me, and cider kit for her, on making her cider kit, the can contents were like water, not the treacle like consistency of the beer kits, plus more expensive. So looked at a bottle of cordial concentrate and wondered what is the difference? Cordial...

How much work is needed to brew kits?

I started doing home brew around 2010 when my wife abandoned a brew she had started, I slowly learnt temperature was the key, a number of stalled brews due to getting too cold, and some rather bitter brews due to getting too hot, and when our fridge/freezer was condemned I moved from kitchen to...

    Orange in beer?

It was an error, did not wash bottle out as I should have done, and I bottled bitter beer in a bottle that had contained orange juice. The result was really nice, so tried putting orange juice in the brew, but didn't work. But why?

Re-starting kit brewing, temperature control, ideas please.

OK this time of year not really a problem, I have a demo under floor heating tile, about 20 watt, I put the fermenter on the tile, a sensor under a belt pressed hard against the side of fermenter, a home made controller a MH1210A and a STC-1000 and I just put a coat around the fermenter with the...

Keeping an eye on temperature without refrigeration, how do you do it?

When I brewed beer kits last time I had a fridge/freezer so it was easy, set the temperature, and walk away, however moved house, so have means to heat, but not to cool, now I remember when first using a fridge/freezer not turned on, I found even in winter the brew would over heat in first few...

    Restarting due to price hike.

Morrisons did 4 cans of bitter for 90p simply not worth brewing at that cost, OK only 2% but it was OK, now jumped to £1.76 so time to start brewing again. Still have fermentors, but fridge/freezer gone, so thinking of control methods, still have the controller but can't cool can only heat...

Ups got it wrong, wonder what will happen?

Not living at home, so today it was mad dash home to start a beer off for the new year. Single can kit so it was just pour sugar and can into fermenter top up to 40 pints bang it into freezer with an 8 watt bulb to heat if required. In the main the brews end up at around 18 deg C but little low...

An idea but will it work.

So I want to do an experiment with sugar, when I made prohibition kits, the method was loads of sugar, let it ferment, add charcoal to remove off taste, then add flavour, so what will happen if with a kit beer, the sugar is brewed independent of the wort and given charcoal treatment and then...

    Wherry a beer for drivers?

From instructions on Woodfordes Wherry, so (1.040 - 1.014) x 0.129 = 0.003354% ABV some how I think some one has got the decimal point in the wrong place, I think it should be 129 not 0.129?

    Fermentation Technologies Orange Brandy

At last completed. Started 3rd July today 7th August so not that far over the 3 weeks stated on the instructions. And I tend always to leave it a little longer than required. The results are good I can't dispute that. As with all the high Alcohol it does have quite a few stages, basic idea...

    Plastic or Glass bottles.

I have moved over to plastic bottles for my beer, but came to do a Orange Brandy from Classic Liquors and it states "Store in glass bottles" is there any reason why a high ABV (20%) liquor needs to be in glass not plastic. So much easier with screw caps.

    Add Recommended fermentables

I bought two Coopers kits, only £10 each so seemed worth a try, decided to use treacle with the stout and keep the one packet of spray dried malt for the English bitter. However when I came to make the Stout I thought the last one I did was only 30 pints not 40 pints so decided to...

    Two can or replace sugar?

I would like to improve my beer, not drinking as must now so may as well be better quality. The two can route is easy, however replacing the sugar with honey, Syrup, treacle, cornsugar, or spray dried malt may have better results? The latter works out more expensive than two can which asks the...

I need to go to Spec Savers!

I had a cider kit bought for me, says cider in 48 hours, simple add yeast then add water, however it was black on red writing and I read it as add 10 pints of water, where in fact it is add 18 pints of water, when I went to Wilko and saw other versions on the shelf I realised my error. So...

    Settling after moving fermentor

I have started to use my freezer compartment to start off my beers, however it is too low to syphon from so step one is to move from freezer to fridge so I can syphon either to clean fermentor or to bottle. To move I am not strong enough to do it in a gentle way, it gets shaken about a bit, so...

Victors Apple Cider 20 Pint temperature

My wife has just arrived home with the kit. Not really a cider man and it states will keep 20 days, not sure I want a pint a night for 20 days on the run. But without opening it may say more inside it states room temperature which could be 16 ~ 26 degrees. In the summer my beer needs around...
