    Beer Kits and RO Water

I've been all grain brewing for over 5 years, using R.O water as my tap water is very hard. I have been given a beer kit as a present, a hazy mango pale ale that I'll be brewing soon. My question is how to go about treating my RO water when using a kit that has already had some water additions...

    2 hour mash

I've come across a Gose recipe I like the look of. However, the mash schedule is 60 mins for the pilsner and wheat malt etc, then you add the acidulated malt and mash for a further 60 mins. Can anyone explain the reason for that. Many thanks

    Planning First BIAB

I am planning to move onto doing my very first BIAB and would be grateful of some tips. I have a lot more research to do, but would be grateful of any simple, tasty, tried and tested recipes to try. I have the Graham Wheeler 'Brew Your Own Real Ale at Home' book, so any pointers would be great...

Staying with Kits or moving on?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. Recently brewed a few kits, including a Woodfordes Wherry, Sundew and Brupak Linthwaite and will be getting a Ruby Red in the FV soon. Although these brews are still conditioning, a sneaky bottle or two of the Linthwaite has produced a lovely tasting pint, so really...

    Northern Lights (or Southern Lights)

Anybody seen the Northern Lights over the last couple of days. Looking at the pics on the net, they have been seen as far south as Gloucestershire and look amazing, especially those around Northumberland.

    Bottling Day Last week

Here is a pic (if I've uploaded it correctly) of a sample of my bottling day last weekend. It was a warm February day so was lucky enough to be able to bottle outside. I always like to keep the original labels on the bottles and see what friends say about the beer without them knowing it's a...

    Cleaning/Sterilising a Bottle Tree

I got a bottle tree from Father Christmas and as I'm planning on bottling tomorrow, had a thought last night about cleaning it. Don't want to have lovely clean bottles, only to pick up some nasties from the tree. I initially thought about spraying a bleach mixture on it and then rinsing it off...

    Near Miss of a Difference

Imagine seeing and hearing this coming towards as you're having a quiet glass of beer. It will have to be another feature now http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-25975251

    Chicken Coop/House

SWMBO has been on at me for ages that she wants to keep chickens and I don't think I can put her off any longer and she wants me to build a smallish/medium sized chicken house. I have fairly basic carpentry skills and think I could manage to knock something up..........but what? I've...

    Building a Website

I'm planning starting a small business and want a decent website, that can be found via Google searches etc. I can build one myself with one of these website builder programme thingies, but that is where my knowledge ends. Can anyone suggest a good firm that provide the whole package i.e a...

    Aquarium Heater advice

Might seem a daft question, but I need to be 100% certain. I'm about to order an aquarium heater on ebay to make a brewtub, but need to find out if there is any liquid whatsoever within the heater? Reason being, is I'm taking it out of the UK on a plane in my hand luggage, so want to make sure...

Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Ice Cream

For something different this Christmas for a pudding, why not try good quality vanilla ice cream with proper extra virgin olive oil drizzled over the top. It is a really amazing taste and one I'm sure you'll try again. Do it. It also helps once you have finished it, it needs to be washed down...

    Experienced Total Beginner

I started brewing years ago, being shown the ropes from my Dad and him passing a lot of his equipment to me and starting off with Boots beer kits, then Geordie etc. However, after reading various topics on this forum, it's made me acutely aware that my knowledge hasn't really progressed over...

Linthwaite Tasting Good, How Long in the FV?

I've been home brewing on and off for years now, but mainly off for the last 7 or 8 years. I have never in all my time had a taste of my beer while still in the FV :nah: .............until tonight. Wow - picked up the info and tip of using a ladle to transfer into a trial jar to both measure...

    Favourite Beer Kit

There is a genuine reason for this question, so would be interested in your comments: If you could brew only 1 beer kit for the foreseeable future, what would it be and briefly, why? Cost doesn't matter :drink:

Expat Newbie living in Italy fed up with Peroni

Hi all, I'm an expat living in Italy and after a break of about 7 years of home brewing I'm back on the case. Got a Brupak Linthwaite light in the FV and after reading the reviews on here, really excited about it. Looking forward to trying out the other beers in the range too. Decent real...
