Every night shift has a silver lining.

Supping a pint after your shift finishes reminds me of when I used to work next to Smithfields Meat Market in London. I worked normal office hours, so would walk into work in the morning, often having had a few too many beers the night before so may still be feeling a bit tender. The market...

Something for the land rover fans!

Whatever they do, I hope they make the cab big enough to fit a normal sized driver in it this time. The current 90 model is hopelessly small.

Something for the land rover fans!

I test drove a D2 and thought it was absolutely terrible, then we reluctantly bought a D3 as we couldn't find anything which suited our needs better. They couldn't be further apart in terms of space and usability IMHO. I really like the D4, but it is getting a bit too much like the Range...

    elderflower champagne

I used the River Cottage one. I wouldn't worry about it too much, as the ingredients aren't an accurate science. It will just slightly affect the final taste, a bit like modifying beer recipes. Makes sure you use decent bottles else they may explode when they carbonate!

Something for the land rover fans!

I have a LR Discovery 3 and love it. It gets used as a van for the beekeeping/horses and 4x4 when shooting. It is also great when 4 adults want to head out to the pub. I guess I must be in the minority as it doesn't get used on the school run and I have Waitrose deliver my shopping to...

    Cleaning bottles

You would be surprised, it is actually quite a controlled process - so long as you keep the bristles in the bottle and below the water line. I was worried about water flying everywhere, but I made less mess than I would doing it normally. I think next time I will have the water hotter and...

    The dog has farted!

That doesn't sound good! If my brew smelt like one of our dogs farts I would get rid of it ASAP!!

    Cleaning bottles

I can just about manage to shove a bottle brush into the end of a drill and have also just managed to upload a photo to the forum using PhotoBucket, but I am afraid YouTube is way beyond my patience threshold!! ;)

    Cleaning bottles

Welcome to the future of bottle-cleaning home-brewers..... As promised in an earlier post, I introduce the BottleBrush-o-Matic! Works a treat too! :thumb:

    Cleaning bottles

I do have two relatively nearby Poundlands to choose from, but the drive to them and parking charges wipes out any saving. Thanks for the tip though, as I may grab a batch when I am next passing by. :thumb:

    Happy boy!

Aigle and Le Chameau are the 'new Hunter' since the chinese bought Hunter a few years back... ;)

John O Groats to the Mull of Galloway

The story sounds a bit like a soap opera that I am on the sidelines of, but I guess that is just life! More than happy to spare a few pounds. :thumb:

    Second brew of the year..

I am bottling my Coopers Stout tonight. The hydrometer test samples taste great already.

John O Groats to the Mull of Galloway

I have a long-lost uncle who I met for the first time last summer. He was sent for adoption by my gran during the war and had only just managed to trace his family. About 2 weeks after we met he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. From my perspective, life has dumped on him from day one, yet...

Request for bottles brought a bonus

It goes to show what a bit of effort can bring! Be careful though, she may have added something to the beer which turns you into a pumpkin or something. Remember Snow White etc!! ;)

    Happy boy!

Interesting about the wet weather. I wonder if that's why we have a bit more of the wild garlic here in Suffolk this year than usual, as we get very little rainfall compared with other areas of the UK, but this winter it has been much wetter - although still nothing like some areas of the...

    Cleaning bottles

I just bought 2 x 1kg tubs of Wizz Oxi Powder from Tescos. Ingredients seem to be Sodium Carbonate Peroxyhydrate and oxygen bleaching agents. Will give it a try at the weekend. May also try my drill/bottle brush idea and see how it goes (if needed).
