Campden tablet, ok to put in when concentrate is mixed?

Hi all,

Going to get a wine kit started today using my tap water. Is it OK to add the campden after the concentrate is mixed? And then add the yeast afterwards?

Might be a silly question but hey :D
 
Do the kit instructions say you need to Campden? The kit contents should all be sterile, so unless there's something seriously wrong with your tapwater that can't be fixed by boiling it...
 
The chlorine in tapwater evaporates after about a day, faster if there's a good ferment going, so has little (if any) effect on the final flavour. There isn't enough in tapwater to have a noticeably significant effect on the yeast. The campden tablet will be a more of an issue - you'd ideally need to delay pitching the yeast by 24 hours.

Adding a campden is recommended only if you're using fresh fruit or flowers that may have wild yeasts or other micro-organisms on. In most cases boiling water is a useful alternative, but in some (plums and other high-pectin fruit) one campden per gallon is the better choice.
