you can buy malt from otley brewery shop in ponty! - no need to pay the toll!
There's a small homebrew shop on Parc Crescent in Barry, The Home Brew Centre. They stock pale, crystal and a few others but their opening times are limited to best to check before making the journey.
If you do find yourself over the bridge, Brewers Droop on Gloucester Road in Bristol has got loads of stock, but it's not cheap. If you're not pressed for time you'd be better off going online.
