OK, CJJB used Nescafe instant. I've not Googled yet, but all the recipes I've seen in the past use instant. Instant does not cross the threshold of this house, though I'm not a huge coffee snob compared to some. Can I make a coffee wine with the stuff I stick in my cafetiere? That's usually a Dowe Egbert's green label or red label or a Taylor's Italian or Hot Lava Java. Anybody want to guess what else ought to be in the recipe?

Did the coffee wine yonks ago - remember it tasking ok (but not as good as tea wine!) - based on Berry's recipe with instant. I think instant because it's cheap and easy to handle. But you should be able to just use ground coffee, but I guess be careful not to make it too strong. Otherwise stick with the recipe.
