Just bought some stuff to have a go at A Baltic Porter.

Any feedback before I put the kettle on tomorrow.

4 kg of Maris Otter
2 kg of Munich
500 g chocolate
500 g caramalt
100g saaz hops in a 90 minute boil
Lager yeast

Make about 5 - 6 gallons?

The 2 beers i do regularly are IPA which I do 60 minutes and pale ale for 90.

How long would you boil for?

Thanks

I only boil for 60.

If a recipe calls for 90 then so be it. Putting your recipe in brewmate 60 min boil gives 40IBU and 90 at 42IBU.

Not sure what the extra 30mins boil would give, I'm sure some more experienced brewers on here will offer more advice.

Either way looks a tasty beer!

I will maybe do 60 minute boil then. Only thought 90 minute through force of habit.
I tend to lose too much liquid during a 90 minute boil anyway.

This isn't to any fixed recipe. Just read a few online posts and recipes and kind of hit a middle ground.

Just getting ready for boil now.

I am having second thoughts on yeast choice.

I just asked for a lager yeast at my HB shop and was given youngs lager yeast.

Some boy great reviews online. I also have a Safale US 05 to hand which I usually use with my pale and IPA beers.

I was wondering about just using that instead?
