This is my intro post. I'm new to this stuff - but thought I'd join up to share a very simple story.

Got a basic mead going yesterday, 1 gallon in a demijohn. Bubbles were coming through the trap nicely. After a few hours there were no more bubbles in the trap - but plenty of activity in the demijohn. So, do I have a leak or is something else going on?

I dribbled some olive oil around the trap/cork and got my answer - a leak where the trap enters the cork. I suppose I could have left it - but couldn't bear not being able to watch the bubbles so I've sealed the leak with a tiny blob of silicone. Maybe I'll regret this - but at least I can enjoy the bubbles for now.

Welcome, there's nothing better as a new brewer than seeing and hearing your airlock going like the clappers. I still enjoy it now but I am still relatively new to it all myself.
