Hi

I'm thinking of brewing a Halloween Pumpkin beer. I am new to home brewing and have only done 2 so far using the Coopers Kits. Can I simple just add the fresh pumpkin to the fermenting bucket to make it taste like pumpkin or will this ruin the beer?

Thanks
James

I haven't tried it myself but I believe that you can. From what I have read you want to cut it into smaller chunks and roast it first then add it in. I don't think you really have enough time to turn a beer around for Halloween though.

Watch out for a stuck sparge if you mash it.. can recommend rice hulls to aid in a good filtration.

I mashed and boiled some, which had been pre-roasted. Can share a recipe if you want. Not much pumpkin flavour makes it through, more likely just a hazy beer with slight spice flavour if you add any...
