Hi all

I put together the following today:

18 litres Tesco Everyday Value Apple Juice (17.1g sugar per 150ml)
4 litres Tesco Raspberry and Cranberry Juice (17.7g sugar per 150ml)
908 grams Tesco Clear Honey (81g sugar per 100ml)
500 grams Coopers Brew Enhancer 2
1 litre 10-teabag water for tannin

But after much mixing and aeration I found my SG reading to be lower than expected (1.048 SG)

My question is how can I estimate SG from sugars present?

I had a go (as you do) and tried calculating the total sugar content:
  • 205.2g in the volume of apple juice
  • 47.2g in the volume of raspberry/cranberry
  • 735g in the honey (adjust 90% fermentable = 661.5g)
  • 500g in the brew enhancer
=1.414kg sugar in 23 litres

then dividing this by 23 (to get weight of sugar per litre)

=61.48g sugar per litre

But I am now stuck!

Can anyone help a nubbins?

Thanks in advance!

I put something close to your figures into an on-line calculator and it came back with -

Thanks CT that is what I thought based on my SG. ~4%

Still I would love to know the maths used from "weight of sugar" to "estimated %" so that I can build it into my brewing spreadsheet.
Anyone know the formula and happy to share it?
