i didnt say it wasnt, you posted it - and i asked why you think it is relevant to this thread ?

Over 500,000 people emigrated from the UK in 2022, the UK needs more immigrants to keep the economy growing, funnily enough, there is a fair whack of immigrant doctors and nurses in the UK, same over here but we have more Pommy doctors than you could poke a stick at. There was even a documentary made about all the UK doctors coming over here for experience and not going back to the Old Dart. One Queensland town is offering UK doctors $500,000 per annum and a rent free house!

There's nothing wrong with migration or immigration per say, the trick is to ensure the existing cultures and values of the country concerned are not destroyed/destabilized by it. Not that this matters a jot to the ruling politicians as they can buy their way out of such areas.

Do you think it isn't?
Gosh, what a palaver.....you post a story on here with no context, get asked what the link is, and rather than answer a simple question you then ask others about the counterfactual. Odd way for a forum moderator to behave, but in the interest of good behaviour I will play along....

I don't know enough about the root cause of this tragic incident to have formed an opinion. You seem to have done so, and all I am asking is that you substantiate.....

It's just a fact of life, been going on since the beaker people, then the Celts Romans, Saxon's Danes and French. Jamaican, Indian Pakistani. It all settles out in the wash, not the first generation but definitely second or third. How many Indian restaurants in the UK?

There's quite a few Italian restaurants/cafe's in our neck of the woods. In swansea st. helens road could be called the 'curry mile'

Funny how a post on the downfall of the Torys comes round to immigration, brexit anyone? Up here we still miss all our Polish hotel staff. Its not going to be the same with all male sub Saharan staff. If the Tory's really wanted to stop illegal migration all they would need to do is shut down deliveroo and all the cheap car washes. "Come to the UK and get an electric bike"

Will Labour be able to turn the tide?

Like most areas the tories have messed up, everything is fixable, just not quickly and cheaply. It won’t take the media long to denigrate their efforts and get the gullible to shift back to the tories. They took 13 years to destroy it all, it might take 20 to fix it

Taking a bloody long time this Tory downfall innit?!

quite a telling graph this, as it shows lockdown (and specifically the disasterous decision to make the NHS a covid only service and effectively discourage people from seeking treatment for other ailments) did at least as much damage as the preceding decade. And Labour wanted longer and harder lockdowns of course. they also helped the government force through various crazy restrictions when their own back bench rebellion meant they would not have had a majority for these terrible actions, that will have a massive health detriment on the young. The only meaningful opposition we had during lockdown as the CRG. There was an absurd moment in Jan or Feb 2021 iirc where Starmer said he would support the govt on "any" further restrictions - almost every form of socialising was illegal then - what on earth was Starmer envisaging ? Maybe the banning off outdoor exercise - that wouldn't have done much for NHS waiting lists in the long run either - but I digress.....

Nevertheless, the Tories will very likely pay the price electorally for these lockdowns, as is happening in many other countries. And rightly so.

Of course, the likely Starmer government in 2024/5 will inherit an economic position (again due to lockdown) that is orders of magnitude worse than the very benign position Blair inherited in 1997. So they wont be able to chuck money at it, which the unions and media would have us believe is the only solution. Perhaps Labour will actually deliver the reform that the NHS desperately needs. We can but hope.

Footnote - I realise that it is a minority view that lockdown caused all this, which of course is due to the propaganda campaign that the govt and media mounted (and are still mounting) to justify it. There can be no healing until the damage it did is understood, and we do a proper health and economic cost benefit analysis of whether it made sense. Sunak tried to suggest this (specifically a QALY analysis) at the inquiry last week and was shot down by the the lead counsel - who in doing so revealed he doesn't even know what QALY stands for. I originally had hope the inquiry might provide an objective analysis of the costs of lockdown, but it seems I hope in vain. The inquiry should be wound up, but it wont be of course. The conservatives dont have the guts and labour will quite happily let it proceed as a tory flagellating exercise.

They might be able to technically, but they have zero interest in doing so. Starmer stands on a platform of radical right-of-centre continuity.

He has spent the last 3 years calling out the Conservative for their shortcomings if the Tories are in opposition after the GE i am sure they will remind him at every opportunity.

I've worked with poles, great people. They make an effort.

I refuse to use deliveroo, in my local experience, ive not seen a single deliveroo biker pedal. so that's illegal for a start. but e-bike regs are a joke here so I can't blame them for having a laugh.
