What’s this in the wort?

Hi all... I have just bought a new brew set up and on my first brew when I was draining the wort there was some strange rainbow coloured bits which looked like oil does on the road when it rains.
I thoroughly cleaned the kit before using and only noticed it after adding whirlfloc and yeast nutrients and the copper chiller. Has anyone seen this before?

Did you add any whirlpool/flameout hops?

Either you haven't cleaned it and it's machine oil....or hop oil...

looks like oil. stainless is a pain in the ass to clean out when new.

I did add 50g of flameout hops... however I’ve never seen hop oil before. I cleaned the kit with caustic soda before use.

The surfactant in Starsan does that. Nothing to worry about if you've been spraying starsan on it.

caustic soda should have got all the oil off. I expect it's just oil from the hops.

Caustic soda's a bit overkill. It's probably from the hops. Don't worry about it. It'll either go into emulsion during fermentation or remain floating on the surface and be left behind at bottling time.
