Yeast - clean up?

Ive seen references n this forum and others to yeast being left to "clean up" after itself.

What does this mean exactly?

What does the yeast do, how long does it take, anyway t tell when theyve finished?

If you leave a brew 10-14 days in the FV it gives things times to settle at the bottom

Fermentation can be over in as little as 36 hours if you pitch a sufficient amount of healthy active yeast . . . but this does not mean that the beer is 'finished' . . . if you leave the fermenter for 7-10 days the yeast will absorb many of the funky flavours that they created in the first place . . . things like diacetyl which can give a buttery/butterscotch flavour/ aroma to the beer . . . plus sulphide . . . if you rack to secondary / bottling bucket before this these remain in the beer and the beer isn't 'clean'
 
BB.....You seem to have quite a few problems with your yeasts Buddy! Remember this one :lol:

Wyeast 1469 (TTL) was a nice yeast, good solid sediment but that also tried to escape the fermenter.
