I'm not sure the Conservatives have thought this through. The people who will most likely be effected most by having to pay for prescriptions, older people/pensioners (and who dont have to pay for their presctiptions afaik) are exactly the same people who are the Conservatives core voters

Ive always found in france that pharmacys sell loads of stuff you can't get here without a script, and most of them speak english quite well

Robin i wonder if i could get any thing for my Inf*****ns:whistle:

Don't worry you can still get that prep anti aids stuff on prescription since the NHS lost its appeal. Costing them £20M a year plus whatever legal fees they paid.

Funny wasn't well last week and went to the doctor where she issued me with amoxycillin, gaulpseud, and eye drops which are steroid based and then told me that I needed benelyn for chesty coughs which was not available on prescription and I said you are joking as I thought the most expensive would not be available not the cheapest!

Cough medicines have been of prescriptions for years as they are limited in their therapeutic use. you can still but them but a lot cheaper that £8.50.

By the time you reach the end of this you will be as gobsmacked as i was when i was told.

A friend of SWMBO works in a council run care home every month they get their meds sent from the local chemist to fill prescriptions sent from the doctors who visit the home, for some reason they do not stock check before the order goes in so every month when they book the new meds in they have many packets of unopened tablets already in the cupboard which is caused by residents only taking tablets when needed, these unopened packs of tablets are thrown into a bin bag taken back to the chemist where they are destroyed, we are talking thousands of pounds every month from one small home, the staff who deal with this have asked several times why they do not put them back on the shelf and they were told its because they have been off the premises so are classed as used.

The care home supervisors (who do not stock check) are not totally to blame as residents can go into hospital so do not take the tablets and while in hospital their medication can be changed ladding to the over stock problem, there are many reasons why there can be an over stock problem but surely there must be a way to stop this waste of money.

.

Relabelling of prescriptions is an offence that can get Pharmacists struck off, same as just taking someone else's tablets or passing them round, clinically it is totally wrong. It is a serious offence to represcribe old drugs once they have left the pharmacy as they are prescribed to the named persons only.

My mother in law came out of hospital 4 weeks a go with a carrier bag full of 9 types of medicine. These were replaced by boxes from local pharmacy so we still have an unused bag. the hospital also sent some High calorie drinks to build her up from 5.5 stones and these were out of date by 18 months!

Waste is built into the system, for instance if a doctor prescribes Paracetamol that will cost £8.50 but available for 20p a strip, handling costs and discounts for pharmacists are enormous!

Many people voted for Brexit so that we could move all the money being sent to the EU over to the NHS.

Apparently this won't happen for at least two years (if ever), so they had a man on TV today explaining the "NHS Two Year Plan".

I was appalled that the man (Simon Somethingorother) gave absolutely no reassurances to the people who purchase Private Health Insurance.

The purchasers of Private Health Insurance pay a lot of money for their "Peas of Mine" but they were given NO reassurance that they could still use NHS facilities (hospitals, doctors, consultants, nurses, equipment etc) on the cheap OR that they could still jump the queues to get ahead of poor people who will now be expected to wait longer for their operations.

It's an absolute disgrace.

PS

Today I was told that my Doctor would no longer issue prescriptions for ANYTHING that can be bought over the counter from a pharmacy! Whether or not this is relevant to activating Article 50 I do not know, but I do know that "To Hell in a Handbag!" immediately sprang to mind!

PPS

I want immunity from prosecution for anything I Post on this Forum!

The way I looked at this Old folk ( naming no names) are to blame for this according to almost everyone.
Elderly folk taken to A & E are accused of bed blocking so turfed out to care homes at 11:00 oclock at night. If not they have to remain in hospital until a care bed becomes available. They are also being discouraged from going to A&E but what other option do you have if you live alone and have a life threatening event.

In order to ease the situation APPARENTLY caused buy old folk they NHS are delaying Knee and Hip operations. Now correct me if I am wrong but the under 30 population do not have a great need for new hips and knees so this targets the very group who are being blamed for being ill in teh first place. I recokon if you give an "old person" new hips or knees there may well be a cost but it will also make their lives better and minimise the amount of time they need medical intervention.

i remember in th 1980s when people were waiting up to 2 years for knee and hip surgery and so lots went private but not everyone has that choice. the current average of 18 weeks may be tolerable but I can see that stretching to 6 - 112 months before too long!

I get that but its unbelievable the NHS is in so much trouble and due to a lack of a better system expensive medication is wasted every month, how many council run care homes are there in this country and do private ones also do this, the amount of money that is being wasted could run into tens of millions a year.

It already is 112 months i have been ****** around now for 18mth i have advanced ostio arthritis in both knees, can hardly walk some times in pain constantly, need two new knees , there answer was! do these exercises and we will be in touch, if i could do those exercises i would not need new knees , The medical profession has vastly gone down hill over the last ten years and the massive amount of money wasted by incompetent admin is criminal

See if you can spot the flaws in the remoaners argument. We need to allow free movement to get staff for the NHS. Any foreign person coming here should get unrestricted access to the NHS. The NHS cant cope with the number of patients they are treating.

My pharmists drives a Porsche and owns a house worth over a million, enough said. Oh and he likes to lose my bloody prescription.

Having worked in an EXTREMELY busy orthopaedic operating theatre for 8 years I sympathise with you. It was never rocket science to workout/realise/know that advances in medical science would make the population live longer, thus needing more interventional procedures.
The business of sending you to physio is what I call the "FAIRGROUND EFFECT".
Basically, you get in via a GP referral, and you have a go on the swings for 8 weeks, then they transfer you to the hoopla, and then after 8 weeks your on the dodgems and then its back to the swings. Its just a big circle to keep you busy and make them look like they are treating you. Me cynical...never

Thats not strictly true. They could do more but can't afford too. I worked for a year at Brighton Eye hosp and there was no waiting list, we were that efficient, so the Trust rationed the care to save money! Work that one out. Ive always said that you actually get penalised for being efficient.

Robin it is exactly has to say , and i am now on hook a duck waiting to go to the coconut shy before referral to the candy floss booth. and all roads lead to the physio who give me more exercises and keeps asking me if i want to join her thursday evening exercise club, if i could do the bloody exercises she gives me i wouldnt be there in the first place but after being told that multiple times its still not sunk in, and i am no further down the road to a new knee than when i first got referred. Some mornings i can barely walk and in constant pain in both knees , i am sure they hope you will snuff it before the ops to save money, We keep on about governments, I cant ever remember a good one there all, just out there to line there own pockets. We are cannon fodder always have been and all ways will be ,

Obviously there is a lot more to consider than my few words and its a far more complex situation than I put. My son is currently under the care of Brighton eye hospital.

Its a fairly big issue where I live in Peacehaven as there are plans to build more houses and the same people who are saying they want refugees and immigrants to be welcome are the same ones who are complaining non stop and trying to get the new housing stopped as local infrastructure cant cope as it is and hundreds of new homes will probably push it over the edge.

Not that i am a Dr but i use colloidal silver when i had an eye infection and cleared up straight away. Worked on my ear as well.

At something like 30p for 16 para or Brufen tabs from supermarkets, b&m etc... how come the NHS can't buy for this much. I am sure anyone having to get bulk would more the stump up a fiver for a months supply.

Probably because there are thirty people doing what one person could do, in different parts of the country.
And it's therefore no co-incidence that the NHS is one of the biggest employers in the world in excess of 1.2 million people in England alone (as well as being a political sacred cow).
Sorry... I'll get me coat.

I'm not sure the Conservatives have thought this through. ..........

I don't think they have thought many things through to be honest; and here's another example!

The "Think Tank" is suggesting that to save money the NHS should stop giving free vaccinations for people going abroad whether to work or on holiday!

If they put that policy into effect:

1. Insurance companies will definitely use it as an excuse to increase their premiums and refuse cover anyone who goes abroad without ALL of their vaccinations up-to-date. I can also guarantee that if you are unfortunate enough to catch something whilst abroad, then an "exception" buried somewhere in the small print will be activated so that they still don't have to pay anything.

2. People won't pay to have ALL of the vaccinations required (believe me when I say that there are a bewildering number of them), as a consequence they will then catch a wide variety of avoidable diseases and infections and bring them back to the UK. Back home they will help spread the infections and diseases amongst the UK population and ultimately finish up in hospital for treatment under the NHS.

I suppose that the "good news" is that, with the GB Pound plummeting against most foreign currencies, a lot of UK subjects won't be able to afford a holiday abroad anyway!
