I use lager malt for all my brews. Bitters, Milds the lot.If I had a choice I would use Weyermanns pilsner malt but it does not really matter, As the saying goes it's what you do with it that counts. I use lager malt for the base then add10% f other malt e.g. Vienna or Munich with3 to 5% of very...
I would rather have a mash tun with great insulation . I really dont like the thought of having a heating element in a mashtun, hotspots and uneven heat bother me.
I have a lentgh of silicon pipe from my HLT with a drilled wine cork two inches from the end that slides anywhere i want it .So the pipe floats just above the bed of grain. Not very easy to justify a auto sparge on a 50 ltre brew.
Whatever the water report is you should test your alkalinity with a Salifert Alkalinity test kit. Very easy to do, I buy mine from e-bay and e-mail the aquatic firm for a use by date with up to 100 tests I require a long date . I test my brewing water before every brew.

I do 10 gallon brews, the day before I brew I put 1 Camden tablet and fill from my antibacterial hose via a filling tube 62 litres of water injecting CRS halfway through. I leave for a few hours stirring well to mix. I then drain into a 35 litre storage bin. Leaving me plenty of HLT water for...
I would whatever you find better for your own convenience, You will find the liquor you reheat will be better than the original used . Are you going to use camden in your HLT ?. Also what mash ratio are you going to use?.

Salifert alkalinity test kit from e-bay. I e-mail the seller first to check the use by dates as you have over 100 tests per kit for about £7. I test my brewing water before and after dosing down to 20 ppm. Put your alkalinity reading into Graham's water calculator and march on mashing. I use...
Can anyone advise me on using the malts mentioned. The Dextrin malt has no taste or colour but has mouthfeel. Do you think it is worth adding to a 23 litre brew and if so how much would you add?. My normal brew is four and a half kilos of Lager malt to 300 to 450 grms of Caramalt and that is it...
I would not buy this deal even for half that price. I choose which hops I want to use. Not packages. Take a tip and only buy the hops you need for the amount of malt you have.last week I bought 56kilos of malt and 400grms of hops. They will be gone in 6 weeks. Nice and fresh. Look at the malt...
Go onto uk homebrew website and Dave will show you in pics how to propergate whitelabs yeast into individual starters. I have used this method for a number of years . Great way of making 8 to 10 starters from one vial.
Hi, test your alkalinity on cold water. Post me the reading mq. Lit and I will work it out for you to try for your first brew. I will pm you in the morning. My test I add 4 ml of tap water into the plastic tube add two drops of colour solution then add test solution until it fades to pale purple...
Look on uk homebrew website Dave shows in pictures how to culture Whitelabs yeast into 10 or 12 yeast staters. I do it on a regular basis. VERY EASY AND ECONOMICAL.
