    Kegland Bucket Blaster

G'day So I recently got one of these and after assembling it, had a go at cleaning two kegs. First was a serving keg so it wasn't too dirty. Second was my 23L keg that I use as an FV. Needless to say, that was a bit dirtier. I used the same water, just to see what would happen. Wasn't happy...

Refilling a sodastream bottle - help!

Anyone got experience of doing this? I have all the necessary equipment but am a tad concerned about the safety aspect. Is it worth taking the risk for the sake of a £13 refill (it's probably more now)? I'm worried the sodastream cylinder will explode in my face. Is that even possible? I know...

    Adding Hazelnut Extract

For some time now, I have wanted to clone Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar. I have the original homebrew recipe and the tweaked Rogue recipe. Trouble is, the extract used in the original no longer exists and the one used by Rogue is not available to buy. Has anyone else cloned this beer and had any...

Hi folks Dark beer comp time again. Getting the notice in early, for those that haven't got anything in stock ATM, to get that brew on and join me...on the dark side. Remit is pretty self explanatory but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. PM me for postage details, if you don't...

Hop bill for an American Red Ale!

Take a look at this and tell me if you think this is totally necessary? I mean, so many small amounts of different hops, spread out every 5 mins seems a tad OTT to me.

    Reasonable priced keg washer

Anyone know where I could get one from? Brew 2 Bottle 'have' one for £60 but they are out of stock. I also think they went out of business and are just getting rid of what they have left, so I doubt they will be getting them in any time soon. Angel Homebrew £90 - sold out Brew Keg Tap £85 -...

    Silicone O-rings are useless...apparently!

Seen this on YouTube today. Kegland have brought out new O-rings because Silicone ones just aren't as great as everyone thought. They had them tested and the results were quite alarming. The long and the short of it is (if you can't be bothered watching the video) that these new O-rings are 27...

What the heck is this on my keg?

Came home after a week away and found these strange white, powdery lines on this keg. The keg was cleaned before I went on holiday and placed in the fridge. The keg is empty. The gas cylinder in the fridge is turned off. Some strange looking lines so I asked my son if he drew on it and he said...

    The SMPH IBU calculator

Hi Anyone know of an online recipe builder website that uses the SMPH calculator? I have been using Brewer's Friend for over a decade and as good as it is, I still have to work out the IBU's elsewhere. Thanks Phil

    Vaping.

Don't know about the rest of ye but people that vape are really starting to get on my nerves. That massive inhale, followed by a click and then huge exhale. At least smokers leave the pub nowadays. But not this bunch. And the device is never out of their grasp. You'd think it was super glued...

    Is saison yeast slow acting?

Hi I decided to make a dry hopped cider using shop bought apple juice. Put 20L in the FV last Thursday and added MJ saison yeast. The blow-off tube showed no sign of activity for a few days so I had a look inside. There was definite signs of fermentation so I seated the lid on the FV (corny...

    Water treatment for kits

Possibly a daft question but should you treat tap water when making a basic kit beer? Obviously use a Camden tablet to remove disinfectants but is there any need/benefit/problems with adding gypsum, magnesium sulphate etc.? I haven't made a kit in a very long time and never treated the water...

    December 2022 Comp - Freestyle

Ok guys, since @itry hasn't been seen on the forum in over a month, I will judge this month's comp, should there be enough interest. I am aware of the late notice on this one so it was suggested that judging take place on the third weekend in January. I am also aware of the secret Santa...

    Slug problems... anyone?

As the title suggests, having a real issue with these pesky little critters ATM. Really starting to lose my patience. I have plugged every gap, inside and out, that I can find. Completely covered the floor under the kitchen units with salt. And still they appear. Hadn't seen one in a few days...

Is PTFE tape safe to use with beer?

Hi, just a quick question that I am hoping someone knows the answer to. I have a leaking ispindel and currently have it submerged in water with white PTFE tape around the thread. I then just had the thought, is this stuff safe to use or will it contaminate my beer?

    Nitrogen to CO2 regulator adapter

Hi guys Hoping someone out there can steer me in the right direction. I recently bought an adapter to hook up my CO2 regulator to a nitrogen cylinder. Was about to go and buy the nitro today an checked my reg with the adapter. It wouldn't screw in. Was speaking to the bloke that sells the gas...

WAY OFF with Brewer's Friend OG reading...Twice!

Hi guys Wondering if any of you have any theories on this one. I use Brewer's Friend as my online recipe builder/calculator and I normally hit my target OG or at least get to within 3 points. But I have just brewed the same recipe in succession (8.3% stout) and have missed the OG by a massive...
