    Improve Geordie bitter kit

Have been given a can of Geordie bitter and was after some suggestions as to how I can get best results. I understand its not one of the better single can kits so don't mind being a little adventurous if I can get a good beer. I normally do two can kits so don't want to be disappointed with the...

to be honest the steriliser was at a reduced price, why i snapped up several. They dont have a lot of homebrew stuff, just a few woodfordes kits if i remember rightly

    Dunelm steriliser

Lot of people on her have have problems with VWP, myself included, the fact that it can be difficult to rinse from brewing buckets and barrels. Anyway, picked up some sterilier from Dunelms homebrew section, its called Bruclens and made by muntons, says its sodium percarbonte, doesnt have that...

    Coopers Irish Stout+DME

Have brewed the coopers irish stout to instructions before, that is with 500g light malt extract and 300g of sugar and it was very good. For my next attempt i was thinking of adding all dme and leaving out the sugar, maybe use 500g of extra dark dme and 300g of light dme. All agree this would...

    The Range- grolsh type bottles

Bought these wire topped bottles from the range, but disapointed to find after 6 months conditioning the bottles havent held the pressure, pity as these type of bottles can be hard to come by, could try replacing the plastic washer with a rubber one i suppose.

    Brupaks black moor stout

Just wondered if any of you stout lovers have tried this kit? Brewed this last summer and found it disapointing to start with but after 6 months in the bottle its now very good indeed, has a thick creamy head which hangs around the glass as you drink it, can recommend this kit

    Question for regular kit brewers

you fill the 5 gallon to the top, with one teaspoon of vwp? I tend to use 6 teaspoons and fill to the brim

    Question for regular kit brewers

i tend to leave the vwp in for about 12 minutes, maybe i should leave it a bit longer, when it comes to rinsing i dont like to touch the inside of the fermenter after pouring out the vwp so just rinse under the tap 3 or 4 times. Maybe i should rinse with some boiling water, might help, perhaps i...

    Question for regular kit brewers

thanks to you all, some good advice there for me to think about. To answer a few questions, the kits i have brewed with tcp taste have been a muntons old conkerwood, which i was absolutely gutted about also a couple of woodfordes kits. Dont think it can be down to the water i use because its...

    Question for regular kit brewers

Have very much enjoyed experimenting with the various beer kits available and on the whole have been impressed with the results apart from the fact, out of about a dozen different brews i reckon 3 or 4 have had off tastes and ended up down the sink. Always a slight tcp taste. Have tried...

    25 litre Wherry

Just transfered my Wherry from primary to a secondary to clear down and realised to my horror that i filled the fermenter to 25 litres instead of the recommended 23. Will it be weak and lack flavour or will it not make a huge ammount of difference?

    Favourite Beer Bottles

Got in the habit of everytime i go to our local Asda store i have a look in the top of the bottle bank, its one of those that you can easily get your hand into and if its more than two thirds full there can be some rich pickings. so satisfying to come back with some free beer bottles, i find...

    Fermentation in this warm waether

Been fermenting a Brupaks stout kit in my outhouse and despite leaving the door open the stick on thermometer has been pushing up towards the 24 degree mark, should i be worried or is this temp just about acceptable for a fermenting stout? Also i have a keg with 40 gallons of nelsons revenge...

    Campden tablets

Just a quick question about campden tablets. The general advice seems to be to add half a crushed campden tablet to a 40 pint fermenting vessel. Just wondered if the tablets come in different sizes, the ones i have which i purchased from amazon are quite small, about 6mm across and 4mm thick...

Light, medium, dark dried malt extract

Recently brewed a Coopers irish stout exactly to the instructions, that is with 500 grams of light dried malt extract and 300 grams of dextrose. Turned out delicious, very, very pleased with it. However i've noticed that most people on here seem to use dark dried malt extract when brewing...
