    Talking of WOW

Yes it is... I think they are rather imaginatively called "WOW variants" :) I've done a few myself using different juices as a base... cranberry, blueberry, pomegranate went down well with the wife.

    Brewery name?

I think you should call it Gordon.

    Busy ol' day...

So woke up this morning safe in the knowledge that I had 80 pints to bottle or keg; 40 of Wilko Pilsner, and 40 of Wilko Pear Cider. This meant I had 40 bottles and a pressure barrel to clean and sanitise... deep joy :( So 4 hours later all was done, and I decided to get my next brew on; a...

    putting air into the wort???

Only brewed kit beers so far, but I just pour/top up from a height and stir a bit. Seems to work :)

    A year and a day...

29th July will be my first complete year, easy to remember cos it was my birthday and I got the Coopers kit off the wife lol. I haven't been quite as prolific or hands on as you PD, unfortunately my other forum-based pastime (running AOC) kind of took over most of my free time... should have...

    Wilko Pressure barrel

Really? Might have to barrel the pear cider I've got going at the moment when ready then :)

    Wilko Pressure barrel

I barreled my first Wilko Pilsner and tbh I would not barrel a lager again... as mentioned, you can't get enough pressure for it to be fizzy enough, plus cooling it is an issue! I'm personally going to stick to using my pressure barrels for ales. Not tried a cider yet, but I could imagine you'd...

    I've been slacking...

What with running the car club, updating it's forum, work, life, shopping... I haven't done anything to do with brewing since before last Christmas! I know, I know... it was the wife that finally kicked me up the bum and told me the stash was running awfully low. Sooo... I had a Wilko Pilsner...

First Brew - Wilks Hoppy Copper Bitter

Bottled this kit about 6 weeks ago, and decided to try a bottle today. I brewed it to 20l It's alright for what it is... it's no Woodfordes Wherry, but it's certainly not offensive. I wouldn't turn my nose up at it if it was served to me in a pub. I know different people have different...

    Coffee wine with Guarana!

Mine didn't clear too well on its own. I was in two minds as to whether it was meant to clear fully, I couldn't find any info to say one way out the other... normal coffee couldn't really be described as clear after all. So after two weeks (and a bit against the clock on Christmas Eve seeing...

    Show us your festive cooking

Been doing the cakey stuff for the family Xmas do today: Choc chip cookies Coconut tarts from the wife: And my masterpiece... caramel cupcakes with a caramel icing topping, dusted with grated choc (and coffee wine in the background) :)

    Coffee wine with Guarana!

I used instant coffee; half of it was Percol Rocket Fuel. Can't remember exact quantities, but recipe is in the first post :)

    Coffee wine with Guarana!

Been a while since I updated this. Finally stopped the fermentation 2 weeks ago and let it settle, then racked it twice and filtered. Here is the end result: Backsweetened with 60g demerera in 100ml water, final gravity was 1010... giving an ABV of 13.2. Taste? You can definitely taste the...

Watching the news about the floods

That's one of the things that often gets forgotten in situations like that. After the flood waters subsided, I remember going round my sisters house to survey the damage and see what could be salvaged. The houses in her road are all Victorian and a lot of them still had cellars... you could tell...

Watching the news about the floods

My sister has just had a call off the EA to notify her of a flood warning... the Northampton flood plains are 99% full and are expected to breach before midnight tonight. Once that happens... well, google the 1998 Northampton floods. Here's the end of her street back in 1998: I've told her...

    WOW juices on offer

I spotted 1L OJ cartons in Farmfoods the other day for 65p... about as cheap as I've seen them.
