    Banks's Bitter 500ml £1.19 Co-op

Title says it all.. it may not be all Co-ops, because they operate independently on a regional basis. or something. You'd have though I'd know which Co-op region my local branch is part of, wouldn't you? Actually I'm in Marston (Oxford) tonight, and have two local Co-ops (literally just around...

    Could FG be 1020?

I made a brew using: Mild kit (1.7Kg) One-half Old Ale kit (1.5Kg) 500g dark DME 500g wheat DME 340g LME Didn't measure the OG... it's been a while now and it's at 1020 and no sweetness in taste... yes I know, check again tomorrow and the day after, but I was just wondering, could 1020 FG be...

    6 x 25l catering urns for £50

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Job-Lot-6-x-L ... 51baf903c4 Now, I know nothing about real brewing but I do believe that catering urns are useful in some way. Note that these are sold as faulty - customer returns, so it's a bit of a gamble. However, I have bought a batch of 6 customer returns (not...

Manns brown ale £1 500ml bottle ASDA

Not likely to be of much interest, I realise that, but I did buy one bottle for old time's sake - I used to drink this when I were a lad of no taste.

Would 1/2 a 2-can kit plus extra dark DME make a mild?

Would this come out something like a mild: 1 can from a 2-can Brewmaker Best of British "Old Ale" kit 500g extra dark DME 500g dextrose

Can you lift a full FV by the handle?

Ever since someone asked how to use a thermometer the other day, I don't mind asking such a basic question. Is that flimsy bit of wire coat-hanger they call a handle on an FV supposed to support the full weight? I should have made this a poll really. Question: Can I lift a full FV by the...

Yeast off to a good start...?

My Saflager W-34/70... has it really started after only 15 minutes? If so, I'm thinking to start dropping the temperature before the 24 hours that I would normally wait is up. Is that a good idea?

What to do with Youngs Harvest Pilsner?

How to make this into a decent brew? I'm guessing: a) Add light DME, not sugar b) Use lager yeast - but which one? c) Use some fancy temperature profile (I have a brewfridge) - but what? Any ideas gratefully received.

    "Heavy duty" two lever cappers

Does anyone have experience of the hand cappers labelled as "heavy duty": Ballihoo version Bigger Jugs version The reason I ask is that I see a lot of complaints here about bench cappers; and all my bottles are different sizes; and with a working hand capper I can go faster than a bench capper...

Another lucky day at the recycling centre...

48 pint glasses. The lady had a van full (I kid you not) but I thought 48 would do me, really.

How to get a cider like Savanna Dry?

I have brewed cider kits, but not for years. I don't remember them as being that good, really. But beer kits seem to have improved a lot, so maybe cider is worth doing these days? But really, what I wanted to know if anyone has any ideas how I would go about reproducing Savanna Dry, perhaps by...

    Lager kit recommendations?

Now I have a brew fridge, am I right in thinking I can make lager (that is, with an actual lager yeast)? Are there any decent kits? I suppose I'm not too bothered what it's like as I don't really like lager that much, I'll only be doing this for fun/experience. And what do I do differently? I...

    My brew fridge

Thanks to everyone for their pics and information on how to make a brew fridge, this is mine, just completed yesterday: Not much to say about it really, it's just like everyone else's.

Sundew + Ella hops: carbonation test

Because I use glass bottles, there's only one way to test carbonation :) Sundew + a bit more LME + hop tea with Ella hops (some 40 mins, some 20 mins boil) + dry hop with Ella. Rather nice, to say the least. Can't believe that it's going to get even better with conditioning.

    Youngs Harvest Mild

This is a budget kit, a single 1.8Kg can, and costs about a tenner. It's a dark mild. I made this with: 500g dark DME 500g demerara 640g food grade LME and in my opinion it's very good indeed. I didn't change the yeast or use any hops. It is just like a mild should be. Just the right amount...

Cardboard presentation boxes for giving away bottled beer

I know this subject has come up in the past, and years ago you could just pick up the boxes from supermarkets that were for people who buy wine. I also know you can buy them online, indeed I think one of the forum sponsors stocks them. But it's never seemed very cost-effective, you either have...

Nice find at the recycling centre

Always on the lookout for bottles, never got any yet. Most people round here have that stuff collected. But there was a pub's worth of pint glasses in the rubble skip. I took 18 Timothy Taylor but left the Guinness and Magners.

    Simply Hops - gorgeous packaging

Wanted some hops, so of course I ordered from one of our sponsors. Simply Hops. My goodness! I just love the packaging. It's an object of beauty. Also very useful - my daughter has it now to keep her multitude of dance, swimming, gymnastics etc certificates. But today I found a serious...

Hop tea for beer kit - boil or not? Hops or pellets?

OK by reading the many threads on the subject I understand one way to add additional hoppy aromas to a beer kit is to steep hops in a cafetiere while doing the other stuff and then chucking it in before the yeast. However am I right in thinking I won't get any extra bitterness unless I actually...
