So I have just brewed a pumpkin /coffee ale and there are 3 additions of pumpkin. The last addition has me confused. The recipe says add it to the primary but then says the secondary in the notes.

Is there any harm in adding it to the primary before fermentation has even begun? For some reason I have in my head that a fermenting vegetable is not something that should be anywhere near beer.

Anyone have any experience in this?

Thanks in advance.

I roasted some with dark sugar and mixed spices and chucked the lot in..combined with a coopers dark ale kit ( or something like that) and some dry malt.
