So about to bottle my 6 bottle beaverdale kit, however I've seen people say they only get 5.5 bottles out of it, will I be ok half filling a 750ml bottle and corking it

Hi!
In that situation I use an empty 500ml pop bottle, add the wine and squeeze the bottle until the wine is at the rim before putting the lid on.
Not pretty, but ideal for short-term storage.

1 gallon harks back to the days of 1 pint bottles. I now work on the basis of 5 litres and get 6 full wine bottles. Screw top bottles actually hold 800 ml, so 6 = 4.8 litres.

Personally this, I'd top the DJ up with a bit of water after the initial fermentation has died down so as to get six full bottles. If you start with 4.5L then by the time you've initially racked it off the yeast to stabilise / clear and then bottled from the DJ you've cleared it in you probably lose about 200 - 300ml of the liquid depending how skilful you are with the syphon.
