Hi all,

Just thought I'd post my first brew. I was given a kit (Belgian IPA) from my wife in February and just got round to starting it now. I've bought a bucket and added a fish tank heater and temp controller to keep it warm. Checked it today and started bubbling / frothing. Looking forward to seeing how it ends up!

Bubbling...

(Edited image link and added a couple more)

Good first time set-up. :thumb:
I assume that 24.5*C is your recommended fermenting temperature. This is fine for a saison yeast but might be a bit high for an ale yeast for which 18*-20*C is more normal.

Thanks terrym, yes they recommended 20-25C so I thought I'd keep to the upper end of that range as I'm eager / impatient to get it going :-)

I'm glad I got the temp controller (InkBirsd ITC-308) as it was cheap, easy to set up and the garage temp fluctuates quite a bit so will keep my brew at a stable temp.

Yeah they recommend that you keep it within that temp range but plenty of people here will tell you to keep at as low as possible. I my self would try to keep the temp around 21c :thumb:

Oh right - what's the reason for that? I will be doing more reading about it all but for the moment I'm starting from scratch / almost no knowledge... At least I can change the temp easily if need be.

One thing Bristol, for your first brew you've nailed the set-up, absolutely nailed it, welcome aboard. You take me back, I was such a Numpty when I started, it's so nice to see someone who did their homework before going shopping.

Thanks for the kind words Larry, glad I'm on the right track(ish)!

I have almost left it alone Dutto - all I've done is reduce the temp slightly to 23.5 after advice here and also after reading some of my new book

The book is really interesting, I'm already looking forward to progressing beyond the "kit brew" but am still enjoying this one.
