No, we are getting members views so with luck we can help him not buy a rubbish phone, i am giving him makes/models suggested so he can have a read of the reviews.

Ordered this for my Son's birthday: https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_920789.html

You'll find the spec on that phone similar to a top end (£500+) phone on the High Street

You're unlikely to get hit by customs if you use the slow shipping method but even if you're hit it should still come into budget.

I've now ordered many things from China and wouldn't hesitate to order again. I'm currently using this beast: https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_618318.html

The only down sides about ordering from China is if you have to return something or you are unfortunate to get hit by customs. Delivery can also take weeks but everything turns up in the end. I always pay for shipping insurance but paying by credit card you'll get more protection. I wouldn't hesitate to order again (in fact my wife is getting that phone I linked in Gold or Pink for XMas)

Excellent phones according to hot deals customers, but must buy global version with band 20 especially if you live in the countryside or travel around a lot. https://www.hotukdeals.com/tag/mobiles

Xiaomi seem to be the phones people rave about for spec's v's price.

That's where I found the deal and yes it's the Global version.

My phone landed in the UK on Saturday and is being sorted. You can pay for fast delivery but from what others say, it's almost certain to be hit by customs duty. I don't mind paying the duty but they add on a processing fee. 2 weeks has been the quickest a phone has arrived from China for me but stuff usually takes 3-4 weeks. 2 months is the slowest but things have always arrived.

My Power 2 is a beast. I get 2 days battery from moderate use. Another excellent phone and a happy purchaser as was my Elephone P8000 I had before this. Don't think these are **** tat either, while these firms may not be known locally, they are big players in the far East markets and produce top rate phones. Don't think I'll buy from the high street again unless it's a bargain.

Phone arrived today which gives you some idea of the time taken when you order from China, fortunately no customs.

My son is setting it up atm, does look a great piece of kit.

I've just ordered myself one of these: https://www.banggood.com/Xiaomi-Mi-...e-4G-Smartphone-p-1196064.html?rmmds=category

Just waiting for it to arrive from China and praying it goes under the customs radar though most of the time stuff does seem to. Little bit more than £150 though.

It's in the UK but alas currently sat at the Heathrow sorting / customs warehouse, should be here soon though and hoping it will be ignored by customs. Can't wait anymore.

The case and screen protector I ordered at the same time from Banggood turned up yesterday.
