Wow, those are some expensive scales.

I calibrate my jewlers scales will coins. Anything less than a quid. I usually use 1 and 2 pences as noone is going to forge a 2p coin. I wouldn't use a pound coin though as there's so many dodgy ones about

My homebrew top tip; always worth scouting the Wholesale Job lot > Industrial, office & commercial section of eBay for used test equipment from companies that have gone bump. Got these for £60, will handle grain, hop and water treatment weighing and should last a lifetime. But its really good for high quality Food Standard Testing thermometers and pH meters.
