Yeast starters and saving yeast

I thought about doing a 1-2ltr starter and thought about storing it in test tubes once deactivated.

Not sure if it's as simple as that if I was going to pitch in a 5gal FV. Also how long would the yeast last in the tubes and could you freeze it?
 
What I do why using liquid yeast is simple, had one fail yet. If fact Ive just thrown away a WLP 004 that is 3 years old, I think that there is a time when it stops being the original strain. Make up a 1li starter using a fresh vial, but keep some in the vial (as a safeguard). Pith the yeast as you normally would. Once brewed rinse the yeast and store in the fridge. You can get enough "rinsed" yeast for 2 more brews. It soon mounts up and you end up giving it away. You can freeze yeast by mixing 50% yeast 25% glycerine and 25% water. The glycerine prevents damage to the yeast cells as it doesn't actually freeze.
