Tis extract, muntons dme dark 1.5kg , 1kg candi sugar dark and 1kg dextrose.
have to say galaxy hops are super, the citra hops added a slight woody taste. not a bad taste but I was looking for 100% tropical fruit bomb.

Yeh, Galaxy hops are superb, got my eyes opened to galaxy as my local serves Okells MPA manx pale which is mainly Galaxy with a touch of Citra also - tastes like heaven in a glass !

That seals it then. Was thinking of a boddies extract clone next but going to do the brewuk Galaxy single hop extract pack. The citra and simcoe sound good too.

So many beers, so few fv's!

My girlfriend is more concerned about the encroaching bottles (there's a lot of them) that seem to end up in unexpected places such as her wardrobe.

She *has* been trying to find ways to delay the start of my all grain career by stopping me from visiting the brew shop (my car keys always seem to go missing...)

This woman is borderline evil. Get rid. :p

Bottles are my wife's least favourite part of the whole affair (apart from the PB I've got conditioning in the dinning room, but that's temporary). I've got about 100 now, and not enough places to store them, so they're piling up on the bookshelf. I put them into 64 L plastic crates from b&q to get them out of the way, then the crates get complained about as they block up the shed. Can't win. Not sure why she even cares about the shed, she never goes in there.

This is my problem, I want to try lots of different kits, but won't be able to drink them quickly enough to free up the bottles. I am thinking about getting another 50 (so 150 in total), but will need to free up some space in the shed (which she will never enter - too many spiders!), so I need to throw out some of the more unnecessary things, the lawnmower would free up a fair bit of space...

(Oh and she can't complain too much, she bought me a lot of the kit for Christmas to get started, which may now be regrettable!)

I may need to build a brew shed to keep the peace as bottles are taking up a bit too much space in the existing shed and **Shock Horror** my other half says the existing shed is not just mine!

She has a point because it is a swiss chalet style shed, with curtains in it.

@doj - there should never, repeat, never be curtains in a shed.

Smell issues avoided by brewing in the Garden (plus I work shifts, so I just brew in the mornings when she's at work). Most of my brewing equipment fits neatly in the cupboard under the stairs, and my demijohns and bottles (about 100 of each, wine and beer) are stacked up in the attic. So that's the space issue solved... There's the odd comment about the incessant bubbling of airlocks to be heard from the cupboard, but that's usually just when I've got a few things on. Mostly getting away with it :)

Bottles do not cause me too much headache and the brewed bottles all go in garage anyway for storage so thats not a problem..

My biggest problem is the FV.. I dont have too many places to put it.. the conservatory is too hot/ cold with the temps and too light in there anyway.. kitchens too hot.. no space in living room as we decorated and want to keep it tidy.. so I put it in the downstairs toilet which is a small room, but dark and very neutral and cool.. Ideal for brewing but she gets fed up with it sitting there for a few weeks at a time. She doesn't moan but I know it irritates her a bit. Maybe in spring I could try the garage.

I do however always make sure I brew when she isn't around.. (and bottle) She is a nurse and works night shifts. Get the ankle biters in bed and crack on.

Whenever I have brewed or bottled when she is around she always asks "you still not done yet" and to be honest after my extract brew I was glad she wasn't around to see the mess in the kitchen with all the hop and grain bags!!

not even in this one? :-)

Brilliant.

It's the opposite of a man cave!

My statement is still true though.

Since this thread has been resurrected by Chippy_Tea, mine objects to the fact that I have larger and shinier pans than we've got in the kitchen. Other than that, I'm totally independent in the, albeit very small, brew shed.

I read "pans" as "pants" just then and was simultaneously confused and amused.

My better half doesn't complain but she and the kids have commented on the fermenting smell in my small office/winery (makes change from the usual smell they comment in there, must cut down on the beans).

The dog and the cats aren't impressed with the bubbler air locks though - they don't yet know whether to run away or attack them.

Had to move the dog's bed as he couldn't sleep in my office anymore with all the bubbling - never seen a dog with bags under his eyes before.

Apart from these tiny niggles all is calm. :)

Interesting story - when I first used a bubbler airlock I awoke at 3am to find the Mrs armed with a bat ready to search the house. She had no idea what the noise was. She's great my Mrs - intruder in the house and she lets me sleep on while she deals with it! Class!!!!

I get this.

Funny, she kicked off when I suggested that, as a solution, she should join the forum too - she could even message me when my tea is ready!

No pleasing some women.

Er - Getting the dog drunk on trub on Wednesday didn't go down to well, she's been out and inspected her flower garden where i happened to dump the trub this morning and apparently its killed the plants......Thats not my fault they may have just died of natural causes like things do !

So far i've "apparently" nicked two of her plastic boxes, she can't find both measuring jugs (that'll be because they are in the garage/brewery now, and actually they aren't measuring jugs any more, they are now beer collection and sanitisation measuring devices, the kettle was covered in 'muck' (again not sure how that happened)

I've only been brewing 2 weeks :p
