I guess we have all done daft things when drunk but spraying a wall dating back to the thirteenth century takes some beating (as will he no doubt) 5 minutes of fame and 10 years of regret.

A British tourist accused of spray painting his name on a historic landmark in Thailand could face 10 years in prison.

Local police said Lee Furlong, 23, from Liverpool, has admitted defacing Tha Phae Gate in the city of Chiang Mai.

Video appears to show a man spraying "Scouser Lee" on the gate, part of which dates back to the 13th Century.

Supt Teerasak Sriprasert said Mr Furlong would be charged with "vandalising an archaeological site".

A Canadian woman, Brittney Schneider, has also been arrested and charged with vandalism for allegedly adding her first initial to graffiti on the gate.

"They will face no more than 10 years' jail [and/or] a fine of no more than a million baht (about £23,555)," Supt Sriprasert said.

"They admitted to the crime, saying they did it because of the thrill and they were also a little bit drunk."

Don't break the law in foreign countries its not full of do -gooders like in this country who will defend them and you will get your just dessert and reap what you sow

I admit, I'm no angel. That fact has made me less critical of wrongdoings.
What a monumentally bad idea here though.
A little drunk? I don't think so. "Pretty drunk" would be more like it.
That's them in the bottom photo?
He looks quite remorseful. Personally, I feel for him. I've seen that face in the mirror--after "pretty drunk."
I never had to make that face for a "little drunk."
That is a female on the left? She appears to be obstinate or in such unbelievable shock that she's unable to produce a facial expression.
Hopefully, the damage can be repaired satisfactorily.

It is indeed a woman and she is going to get the same treatment for only getting as far as the B of her first name. :laugh8:

I love the fact the the superintendant says they will get no more than 10years in prison and a £23,555 fine as if he's doing them a favour. He should have thrown the book at them!

Speaking of fines, I was puzzled the first time I saw a sign posted in a construction zone that the maximum fine for killing or injuring a road worker in Michigan is $7,500. There's a 15 year max prison sentence also.
But $7,500? Just doesn't seem like very much and it's an odd number besides. I'd expect, maybe, $750,000 might be more intimidating. I'd hate to to think some reckless driver noticing the sign and say, "Oh, paying that fine would be a piece of cake!"

That doesn't really seem fair. I think she was going to right "BAD IDEA." From Canada, eh? I live, literally, fifteen minutes from there if traffic is light. I'm not volunteering or anything to tell her parents the unfortunate news, just giving a fun fact.

I've done way worse than these two on many occasions (if you don't take into consideration that what they painted on was built in the 13th century).
