How can two Recipies with same OG & FG have such drastically different ABV values? 5.5 Vs 8.4 What am I missing?

Which bit, the OG or the ABV?
Look at all that corn sugar and honey in the golden ale. Though the main grain weights are similar the extra sugars will definitely raise the OG of the golden ale higher.
