Barrel S30 Valve and soda stream not holding CO2

Hi All, I have recently moved to beer in a keg after years of bottling faff! Much easier process! I got a 2 inch Barrel Cap with S30 Valve from Brewstore and a sodastream adaptor to save on single use co2 (and I have a sodastream anyway), bought for me for Xmas. I had a very nice festival ale...

    Bottled Beer vs can kits

I have made quite a few 1 and 2 can kits, and am very impressed with them, even to the point that I think some of them have been better than professionally made beer. How is it then that a 1 can kit with DME can taste better than a brewery made beer (which presumably uses AG techniques)?? What...

    Beer aging

Hi guys, I have made a few nice kit beers, and was wondering some things about aging. I know flavours need time to develop (though not why?) But I have had John Bull IPA and a Wherry that have improved, not only with flavour but with "thickness"/maltyness. when i tried them too early they...

ALERT!!! To all the keen foragers and elderflower flavour enthusiasts, I spotted my first open heads of elderflower today! (in bristol area, so further north may be delayed). I would say in a week or two they will start to come into good bloom, enough to collect easily, and remember, always...

    Homebrew Morphine or other drugs?

I saw this news report today, GM yeast can convert sugars to morphine. Aa relatively simple procedure in genetic modification could lead to more than just booze in your homebrew! Good or bad? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-32780624

    1 litre stout mini-brew?

does anyone have any idea how i can make a stout but in a 1 gallon demijohn? Ive not used all grain yet, but would dark or extra dark DME work? I wanted to experiment with choc and or vanilla flavours, and more importantly, im not a big stout drinker so dont want 23l of it lying around! cheers

    Experimental microbrews

Hi brewers, I have recently started experimental turbo ciders and wines, and thought I would share my method: Using an old 2 Litre glass demijohn (ex old rosie cider demijohn), and a custom bung, I have created what I call a microbrew which I am using for experimental brewing. (in case others...

Youngs Country Definitive Elderflower Wine review

Bought this kit on sale at Tesco for like 7 quid, so not too bad price (less than £1.50 a bottle). Made 5 and a half bottles. took quite long to clear, had to put outside in shed at about 2-5 celcius for like 10 days before it would clear (maybe provided finings arent very good). brewed with...

    "concentrate" is not actually juice!!!

I have been reading a lot of stuff on here about turbo cider, and being a cider snob I wanted to make the following observations. Concentrate VS pressed...... Pressed apple juice is great, its apples, chopped up, squished, occasionally filtered or treated to get rid of the brownness...

    Cooking wine from homebrew

Hi All, Fairly new here but a reader for a while, but I was interested, do any of you use your homemade wine as cooking wine? Generally recipes call for a glass or 250ml of wine etc, which is less than a bottle, I was thinking of using small bottles to have as cooking wine. Anyone got any...
