    Sankey S Keg Help

That's perfect, found similar ball lock converters on Amazon and a 27quid coupler with good review so 42 quid all in. I had a local guy who supplies a local football club offer me a keg but said we should aim to get through it in a week, that didnt seem right to me as normally a carbonated keg...

    Sankey S Keg Help

Hi all, Im getting married soon and having people back to mine, im going to buy a keg of Birra Moretti (for the lager boys!) to put in my Keezer that is in my outdoor wooden bar, but it's currently setup for Corny kegs. Looking for any help on how to adapt one of my taps please! I know I...

    Recipe Advice APA

Funnily enough Summer Lightening was responsible for the leftover Challenger and EKG. That keg is about ready now and I'm going to give it a try tomorrow. I'll make the APA first to use some of the leftover US hops (from a Pliny The Elder clone) and then probably follow up with an attempt at...

    Recipe Advice APA

Hi - thought I'd see if anyone is kind enough to give me a bit of feedback on a recipe to use up some of what I have leftover for a brew this weekend. I have the following: Maris Otter - Plenty Crystal (Medium, 50L i think) - 100G Carapils - 600g East kent Goldings - 75g Challenger - 150g...

    Mash thickness

I havent brewed for a while but if i remember rightly, most recipes recommend a mash of like 1-1.5 litres of water per pound of grain. I tried doing this for a bit and found this to get my 50l mash tun about 2/3 full when brewing a fairly strong recipe. I think this gap in the tun affects...

    Dodgy Electrics

OK looks like a resounding 'get someone who knows what they are bloody doing before you kill yourself' response.... so i will take that advice. My mate is a spark so i will get him to take a look once he's finished moving house. I have bought the pricey extension leads above already, so...

    Dodgy Electrics

    Dodgy Electrics

Right, sounds like the extension leads I was using will likely be the cause of this. I'm going to get 2 new extension leads and 2 new kettle leads to start on a fresh setup and monitor it closely. Checked the fuse box and all sockets (except the cooker) are on the same ring main so I will...

    Dodgy Electrics

OK, checked the fuse box and sockets are all on one ring main so using different rooms will make no difference. I am going to invest in the 2 most heavy duty extension leads I can find (including RCD) and plug them into seperate sockets to distribute the load, and i'll buy 2 new kettle leads...

    Dodgy Electrics

Thinking about it although I used power from two different rooms, they were probably still using the same ring main. Maybe I need better extension leads and this time plugged into seperate ring mains. Surely that will be safe?

    Dodgy Electrics

Thanks all, just to clarify, I use 2 extension leads, one plugged into the kitchen, and one into a socket in another room. One plug got so hot on the wind up extension lead it melted the plastic housing, The other was melded onto the 3 prongs of the element and I had to force it off. 13 amp...

    Dodgy Electrics

I have an issue that needs to be fixed before I short circuit the electrics in my house, followed by the cicuit board inside my missus' head, which will inevitably be followed by the untimely death of my electric powered brewing career. Sometimes my all grain brews go mostly to plan. I hit the...

    What to do...

Cheers for the advice... option 3 was thrusted upon me as I have too much to do to fit a brew in today now... but I have warmed the setting on the fridge from 19 degrees up to 22 to let the yeast do its thing in a slightly warmer setting. Also - probably wont dump the IPA onto the yeast cake...

    What to do...

I usually find 4 weeks in Primary and 4 weeks in keg gets me a beer that has aged well and tastes good. I used to taste and drink my beer earlier than this, but try to leave until 8 weeks old before tasting as I find by this time the beer has matured and tastes better. To try something a...

    Brewer's Friend Feedback

Just read the above and have to agree, I'm used to making these changes using a conversion tool, but having the EBC numbers as well as lovibond would be much easier. I'm a premium member too and find the site really works well for me so thanks and well done!

    How sanitary is bottled water?

I also use bottled (or tap) water to add to wort when I got a little less than planned and the gravity is a little high. Handy calculator here to see how much you need to add to get the desired OG = https://www.brewersfriend.com/dilution-and-boiloff-gravity-calculator/ When I first started, I...

    Crash Cooling Questions

Since I started crash cooling and using Gelatin in the primary before packaging, my beers clarity has greatly improved. I primary for about 3.5 weeks, drop temp down for 24 hours, add gelatin solution, package 48 or so hours later. For the benefits of gelatin here is a good side by side...

Best choice of barley for IPA?

I've used the extra pale MO by Crisp from Malt Miller for several IPA's and they have all turned out great. I also researched this question trying to work out which type to use a year or so ago, and read somewhere Optic malt would be good substitute for the '2 Row' malt you see in all the US...

    How long does grain keep?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I have a similar question. I bought a sack of milled grain from LHBS in December and asked how long it would last, I was told 'A year'. But after reading other forums etc. that seems to be a lot longer than most recommend!! It's been kept in a wheely bin...
