  1. SwissBrew

My first go at AG tonight.

So put in secondary today. At day 5 I dry hopped with 40g Crystal. FG was 1.023 which is because I mashed at 70c. Dont ask me why I mashed so high ha. Will do low end mash next and then a mid-range one. Anyway, smells and tastes great but looks like soup still. I added gelatine and really hopd...

    Cold CRASHED

Yeah cooling wort is a treat. Just pop the bucket out in the snow  and the other plus side, it was only a kit which had gone sour anyway. My first AG however won't be stored out there! Live and learn..

And I thought you're a 20 something old. But we might have already talked about that before

    Cold CRASHED

So I made an English Bitter Kit a while back and it went sour. I bottled and thought I just forget about it for a while as it tasted awful but I'm determined to drink everything I brew.. I put it in the basement in our wooden old farmhouse. Last night we had -18C and tonight I thought...

Just out of interest Dutto, do you dilute when using bleach?

    First AG, Tips for improving?

Well I didnt know it was an APA someone onhere said so in my thread  just used Citra and Crystal as I fancy them from a brew I had here when i stumbled across 2 Scottish blokes and their Swiss micro brewery on our industrial estate.

My first go at AG tonight.

Cheers. I was more worried the due to the dilution i would end up with a too low gravity but i suppose i can just use more grain of course.

My first go at AG tonight.

I was thinking about this but wasn sure if I still get a decent OG. Think I will try next time though.

My first go at AG tonight.

Well the boiler takes 29L but i can only really fit in 25ish to allow a good rolling boil. I think my volumes were a bit off too as i was worried the grain volume would make it overflow but it was actually no problem to stir in. However you are right nothing wrong with lower volume brews...

    Hello All

Hi and good luck with your brewing. I have a couple of apple trees here too and fancy a go at pressing them next year. Did your cider turn out well? Happy New Year!

    Ph Meter

Have you looked into better strips? Like the 4 coloured ones give you a pretty accurate reading. I'm not sure you get more accurate with the cheap or mid range pH meters. It would have to be a unit with separate electrode to be more accurate.

I won't 😀 just because it's my first AG which shall be all pure without any fixes. But next time...hmm we shall see.

My first go at AG tonight.

Thanks! I didn't really have any targets, just anted the process to work. But got a gravity of 1.053 which is spot on for me so I'm very happy. Just not too happy amount wise. Wanted to get 20l and i think after I've gone in the secondary FV it will be more like 15l. Can't have it all i guess...

My first go at AG tonight.

So...brew in bucket cooling at -6c outside thanks to the glorious swiss winter haha. Mrs. SwissBrew says it stinks and looks like a massive cup of tea...hopefully it will turn into something stronger 😎

My first go at AG tonight.

Yeah used brewers friend to calculate water temp. I'm not too bothered about calculating efficiency. I want to see how my gut feel works. But if the beer is weak i will certainly calculate efficiency 😀
