Will an aquarium heater be ok to heat my FV?

Personally I think 15 degrees overnight is great. My house is about the same and its not a problem. My brewbelt has been retired for ages now and I actually think it gave a couple of brews a dodgy taste. I really wouldnt be bothered at that temp.

    moment of madness

Hi, dont beat yourself up as we all take our eye off the ball now and again. Chances are that your brew will be fine. I personally would never dump a batch over a "possible" mistake so just leave it sit for a while longer and forget about it. Post back in a few weeks and let us know how it...

    Shiftin FV then bottling

Im going to move my betterbrew stout downstairs now and by the time I have some bottles sterilised and rinsed Im giong to bottle it. I always do it this way and only had a problem once. That was with a Youngs lager kit which had a particularly loose sediment. All the other kits I brew seem to...

    First Woodforde's Wherry

If your interested in boiling kits and extracts you might be interested in Charlie Papazians homebrew book. With a wherry kit though I wouldnt boil or tinker with it as you will upset the delicate hop balance. I messed one up once by adding extra DME and it lost all its nice hoppy notes. I still...

Is there too much water in this airlock?

maybe there is a little too much water in the airlock but as the co2 builds in the F.V. it will push the water out and find its own level. I have started putting the lids back on my airlocks as the bubbling is less noisey with it on. I keep my F.V.'s in the spare room next to my bedroom and I...

    John Bull Best Bitter Review

I brewed this a while back with a 1.5kg tin of coopers light malt extract and it was absolutely amazing. Ive never brewed a kit with such a luxurious creamy head. More recently I brewed it with 2 cans of kit and it wasnt quite as good, actually a little too bitter and the head wasnt anywhere as...

    Coopers kits?

Hi, I use Coopers quite a lot and if you read the inside of the label they recommend what to add for best results. Some are best with Coopers brew kit enhancer No.1 or No.2 and others are best brewed with 1.5kg liquid malt extract with the odd exception that uses a combination of malt and some...

New (sort of) home brewer from Essex

Hi Seamus, Welcome to the forum, good to see your brewing again. The general concensus here is that time is the key ingredient in all brews. Youngs Harvest Lager is a cheap and cheerfull kit and should be ready to bottle in around 10 days. I personally leave all my kits for 2 full weeks even if...
