    Coopers IPA final gravity?

I have been rather cavalier with my kits recently, and as long as the old airlock bubbles away for a bit, I stir a couple of times, leave at least 2 weeks in the FV and everything works out well. Now I have a Coopers IPA on the go and I don't recall having seen any bubbling airlock. The lid of...

beer kit enhancers / malt extract - what/why?

Hi again, I have heard some people add malt extract instead of sugar to get a "fuller flavour" out of their kits, and there are also these things called beer kit enhancers. - I thought the sugar was for carbonation in secondary fermentation, so does the malt extract play a carbonating role or...

    Which first lager kit?

Hi everyone, Well I have been through the entire Woodfordes range now and had some nice ales out of it - Admiral's Reserve and Great Eastern probably my favourites - and have a breeding pair of Cornies on the go. Hardly an expert, but getting to know what I am doing :-) Am now interested in...

    Left-over beer

The standard primary fermenting bin happily accepts the standard volume of beer from the standard beer kit. But the standard cornie keg is smaller. What do people do with their leftover primary ferment? I can think of priming it in an ordinary keg (but then surely there would be too much air to...

    Racking tips

Is there a thread or a "how to" on this? I'm not totally convinced about the oral siphoning method for hygiene reasons, and it's, well, messy - so any tips appreciated. Maybe I can convert one of my fermenting bins to put in a bottom tap - has anyone done that successfully? Thanks yet again!

    secondary fermentation necessary?

I tacked this question on to someone else's thread but it got lost, so sorry if you've seen it before. What are the benefits of secondary fermentation? Is it just CO2? Do you get much more alcohol by adding all that sugar? I have an Admiral's Reserve in the FV but a couple of cornies now...

    cleaning / sterilising products

I have done four kit brews now, and so far so (very) good. Having decided that this is a hobby I can definitely go with, I want to rack up my supplies. For cleaning, so far I have been using little pots of Youngs steriliser/cleaner, but I have heard people talking about things on here like soda...

    Norfolk Wherry - CO2 poor?

Hello all, This is my first post here, so prepare for a newbie question... I am on my second batch of Woodfordes Norfolk Wherry, which I heard was a good and easy first brew. I have been quite pleased with both batches in terms of taste (and isn't that the main thing?) But the first one went...
