    Jam wine

An Ankou, what is the marmalade wine like? I'm not a marmalade fan, I find it too bitter, but I love the idea of making a wine from it. Is the end product quite bitter also?

    Russian Imperial Stout attentuation issue

From what I can gather, I reckon it was the choice of yeast that was wrong, which is my fault for not putting in the research. The starter may not have been the best either as the yeast packet was actually quite old (Apr 2019, 8 months past packaging date when pitched to starter). I have...

    Russian Imperial Stout attentuation issue

Loads of replies! Thanks guys! :) By the sound of it, the yeast of choice wasn't the best. In all honesty, I picked it over the Wyeast for a change as I had not used White Labs stuff before, so maybe this wasn't the best idea in the end. I haven't tasted it yet, but the smell is amazing! I...

    Russian Imperial Stout attentuation issue

Hi guys, I recently brewed the Brew Your Own Old Rasputin clone (link) with reasonable success from start to finish, just ended up diluting it a little as I over sparged by a few litres and didn't boil off some before adding the hops. That aside... I pitched a nice big starter of White Labs...

M84 yeast has gone to sleep...

Final update - turns out the hydrometer that read 1.020 still read 1.020 after the stir and TILT showing it decrease to just past target FG at 1.012, confirmed by my other hydrometer. The beer tasted lovely at bottling time, just need to be patient now... 3 months conditioning feels too long...

M84 yeast has gone to sleep...

Ok, so I decided to throw the TILT after giving it a steady light stir (think I nailed it, barely any oxygen in there, hopefully...) and chucked the TILT in afterwards. Left things to settle for a day, TILT read 1.018, which is probably about the same as my hydrometer. I decided to warm the brew...

M84 yeast has gone to sleep...

I see, very attenuative then! I mashed at 65C for 1 hour using an all in one system, then mashed out at 77C for 10 mins before sparging. I do wonder if I should have left it longer in the mash...? I haven't tasted it, I'll have a nip later on. The hydrometer should be ok though, it's been...

M84 yeast has gone to sleep...

It might be crawling, but I couldn't tell you until the end of next week :P highest temp they give is 15C, so I'm reluctant to go higher BUT with 5 points left to go, a couple degrees might not cause any issues... If need be, this thing can wait until after Christmas to be bottled, I'm sure...

M84 yeast has gone to sleep...

Hi guys, got a stuck fermentation by the looks of things. I made the Bohemian Pilsner from Greg Hughes' book but decided to use a starter of M84 instead of his recommendation of White labs. Everything seemed to go well at the start and after nearly 2 weeks and 2 24 readings, I'm stuck at 1.020 @...

    Guinness Black Lager Clone help

Hi everyone! The brother-in-law has been asking quite a lot about a recipe for making a clone of the Guinness Black Lager (https://www.guinness.com/en-ie/beers-around-the-world/guinness-black-lager/). Unfortunately, I have no idea where to start besides using lager yeast and roasted barley in...

Dark Farm Mini Keg and C02 dispenser - 15% Discount

Cheeky question - would this discount be in conjunction with any black Friday deals? The brother-in-law was asking, not me :-P

    Gooseberry wine weird taste

Hi guys, I had a crack at making some gooseberry wine with my mother-in-law's harvest this year. I used the recipe on this link: https://homebrewanswers.com/gooseberry-wine-recipe/ It seemed to go quite smoothly, got a lovely clear product after a couple months of aging. I went to bottle and...

Your First Grainfather Brew - A Walkthrough

I'm gonna have to skip reading this whole thread and post my issue regardless of the answer being somewhere... I have a klarstein, pretty much the same set up as the grain father. I've done the mash, sparge and now boiling. Unfortunately, my pre-boil wort is very cloudy and full of bits. I...

    Klarstein Brauheld Mash Kettle

Hi guys. The brother-in-law got a Brauheld 35 for his 40th and we're playing with it today, doing GH Japanese Rice lager. It feels like a whole other kettle of fish as I've only done brews the classic way (HLT -> mash tun -> kettle) and we've already missed our mash temp after making a stupidly...

Power shower issue - Pull cord or shower issue?

Hi guys, thought I'd see if anyone with knowledge on electric stuff is around to lend a hand! Seems our power shower isn't working and we're not sure why. We have a pull cord switch with light indicator. When this is on, the light is on - all good. When I go to turn the shower on, there is no...

    From Grain to Drain

Whoever said time heals all wounds was a filthy liar... I had to do the same with my 2nd brew - Bulldog Strawberry Pale Ale kit. I had put campden in water to remove the chlorine, but didn't leave it long enough and put the kit straight in without hesitation. 4 months of conditioning and it...

    Using fruit in a brewbag

Hi guys. I started a gooseberry wine at the weekend, pitched the yeast yesterday. I mashed up the gooseberries in a brewbag a couple days before and found my lid fit over the bag on to the bucket, so i have it lined like you would a bin. However, i have taken a look at it today and found the...

The Mad Russian - Imperial Stout

I'm glad I came across this, I've been planning on doing an IS for a long while now, using the BYO Old Rasputin recipe as I'm sure I've had that beer before and loved it! I may be very tempted to try the kveik on it instead of the recommended Wyeast/White Labs suggestions... I was going to pitch...
