    And Yet another Turbo Cider

Made this morning: 20L of Aldi Cloudy Apple juice (not from Concentrate) 10 Bramley Apples juiced then pulp and juice added 500ml of strong Earl Grey tea (brewed with 8 bags) 3* 1lb jars of Aldi honey 5 tsp Malic Acid 5 tsp Pectolase Youngs Cider Yeast. Bottled my last one after 2 months...

Where can I buy a screw for a cider press?

Going to make my own cider press ready for this years crop. I was originally going to make one that would utilise a bottle jack but thought it would be better to use a proper screw. Does anyone know where I can buy just the screw mechanism?

    Tell me how to bottle

Bottled my first batches of wine today. 12 bottles in two batches. Both from youngs kits. I siphoned straight out of the FV and despite being super careful managed to get a degree of sediment in the last two bottles of each batch and lost one bottle after stirring up the sediment too much to...

    BrewFerm Triple

Started this yesterday. My last kit before I join the darkside. Was going to make some Candy sugar but had a bag of light spraymalt handy so used that instead. Mixed everything up and was going out for the day so left it to pitch the yeast until I got home last night. Got in about 11pm, gave...

Busy night last night - Birky Bitter et al.

Wife was out so got busy in the garage and did a 40 pint Brupaks Birky Bitter Kit as well as a demijohn of Youngs Blackberry wine and a demijohn of Youngs apple wine. The latter two kits came in a box of misc. equipment I got off ebay so thought i would give them a go. Pitched the yeast on the...

    Boiling Kits.

I've got my boiler ready to go BIAB but have about 4 kits I'm going to finish first. One of them is a Brupaks Birky Bitter which suggests boiling the whole kit (made up to 23l) for at least 10 minutes and says there is a view this would improve most kits. Any views on this?

    Brewferm Triple

Just got one of these kits to do as one of my last kits before I go all grain. It's a 9 litre kit and says 500g sugar (I'm going to make my own Candy Sugar) will produce an 8% beer. Can anyone tell me how I calculate how much more sugar to add if I want to take it up by a couple of percentage...

    Tempted by the Dark Side

Right, my recent foraying into home brewing (after a looong gap) started at Xmas when I put some money from my mother toward a basic starter kit. Now, just 2 months later, I'm brewing my 3rd kit, got everything ready for a turbo cider next and I'm weighing up going down the BIAB route and on to...

    Better Brew Czech Pilsner

My wife chose this as she is not really a bitter drinker. Interesting kit which comes in a large plastic sachet (bit like a large Capri sun drinks container) with the yeast sachet attached to the bottom. The kit was £12 plus the cost of 1kg of dextrose and makes 23L. Had an OG of around 1044...

    Brewferm Weissbier kit

Got one of these going yesterday. All went perfectly and when I got up this morning the FV is sitting in a water bath with my £6 eBay aquarium heater at 25.1c (kit says keep at 25c). It has already started to bubble. My only bit of bad planning is that kit says 10 days for first ferment and...

First Brew - St Peters IPA

Just pitched the yeast into my first brew. All went well and the FV is sitting in a heated water bath currently at 19.9C :) Lovely smell when the dried hops were added and reports on this kit are generally good so I have high hopes. Managed to get my better half vaguely interested in what I was...

    Hello from Hertfordshire

So I received some money for Xmas and have invested it in some brewing equipment. I did lots of research online but am lucky to have a home brew shop near me (in St Albans) and went there to buy everything. A big thanks to everyone on this site as I have been lurking for a while and picked up...

Really noob question - Tap on Fermentation bucket.

I have just purchased my first set of equipment and have a fermentation bucket with a tap to fit to a pre drilled hole. The tap has a nut for the inside and only one thick washer. Does it matter whether the washer goes inside or outside the bucket wall?
