    My "Beer Kit" how to.

Don't worry about it too much, it'll come to life when the temperature rises again. Try and store it somewhere around 15 degrees if you can :)

Any 530d or 535d owners? Thinking of buying.

Put down a deposit today :D

Would you like a flake with that?

    I use 6ft of 3/16" for 11psi lager and it works a treat :)

    Lager Fermentation Temperature?

Anything would definitely be better than nothing :)

I've mistakenly made one of my favourite beers!

I couldn't quite put my finger on what was so familiar with my first AG brew. I was trying to replicate Grolsch and although my beer has a VERY strong hoppy flavour, it was more citrusy than I was after. I put this down to using too much saaz and overshooting the flavour that I was going for...

    Lager Fermentation Temperature?

No problemo, one major downfall of the kit is that it's really lacking in hops, other than that it's a really good beer. Did you add brewing sugar as well as the brew enhancer? The brew enhancer alone won't really be enough for 23L, just right for around 20L though :)

    Lager Fermentation Temperature?

One of the best kits IMO. If I was brewing it again I would go with one of the following.... Euro Lager Kit 500g Extra Light DME 1kg Brewing sugar 25g Saaz (or hop of choice) Boil 6L of water Take off the heat, add the DME, brewing sugar and lager kit Bring back to the boil then add the Saaz...

Thinking about a stepped mash, is my logic sound?

Spot on, thanks :) Think I'll go with what I planned, should be fairly dry once finished at that.

Thinking about a stepped mash, is my logic sound?

I understand that the quality of the malt that we have means that we shouldn't need to do a protein rest or anything like that, but I was reading around and as I understand it in order to get a drier, more fermentable, beer I should do a stepped mash. I'm thinking of doughing in aiming for...

Any 530d or 535d owners? Thinking of buying.

The hunt is definitely on :D Trouble is I'm looking for a black 530d manual M Sport with full black interior (carbon or silver inserts), pro sat-nav pack with less than 80k for less than 12k. I don't think I'm unreasonable with the money, but ticking all the other boxes is proving VERY...

    Saaz for bittering?

    Cheers :)

    Saaz for bittering?

Yeah, this is the sort of thing I'm wondering... if it actually makes any difference. At the moment I'm using northern brewer, which is reasonably high for bittering. Don't want to waste hops for nothing :)

Any 530d or 535d owners? Thinking of buying.

Na it's really not my thing. I've always preferred the simplicity of a manual. Also the semi-auto's aren't really that great till you get up to supercar standards. They don't do what you want when you want at these levels. I actually couldn't find a single 535i, I wasn't sure if it was a US...

    Saaz for bittering?

Ahh, I thought you were helping out with Grolsch lol. Didn't realise you were just answering the saaz for bittering bit :)

Any 530d or 535d owners? Thinking of buying.

The spec between the cars, as far as luxury goes, is exactly the same. The only real difference is the second turbo. I know auto is seen as a luxury feature but I'm not one to enjoy the benefits of wafting around, I prefer the gears etc (petrolhead). Is there an E60 535i? I can't find any info...

    Saaz for bittering?

Did he mention finishing with Perle? That's what it says on the official Grolsch site :hmm:

Any 530d or 535d owners? Thinking of buying.

I'm leaning towards the 530d given that it comes in manual and it's a fair bit better in fuel economy etc, but I've not completely ruled out the 535d either. Just looking for opinions, running costs etc. Cheers :)

    Saaz for bittering?

Yeah it's for Grolsch, so definitely fits that mould. This is my thinking in it too. I didn't think it made any difference what you used to bitter, as long as you had the correct hops for flavour and aroma. I know that perle is definitely the finishing hop though, I'm guessing it's just...

    Saaz for bittering?

I was reading up some background info on a beer and it states that Saaz and Perle hop varieties are used, firstly for bitterness, then late-hopped for aroma. The way it's said I presumed that Saaz was being used for the bitterness but surely it would take FAR too much saaz to bitter a brew? The...
