    The Homebrew Diaries

I'm a stay at home Dad/part time Consultant based in the Cotswolds who decided to try home brewing beer about 3 years ago following spending an extended time in the USA and discovering some great American Ales I wanted to drink at home. Well one kit, then a handful of extract brews followed...

    Trip Hop APA

I recently brewed this APA which is roughly based on a recipe from Brew UK. It uses Cascade and Nelson Sauvin Hops plus Nelson Sauvin Hop Oil. It is Tripple Hopped (Hops in the boil, dry hopped and hop oil) hence the name 'Trip Hop' So if you like a well hopped APA then give this one a go, you...

    Over efficient mash process?

Ok so its out of the fermentor and now conditioning in the cask. OG on transfer was absolutely spot on as per Beersmith at 1010, pic attached. On tasting it wasn't as bitter as hoped but that is due to the huge water addition. It did however still taste great. I have also added hop oils to...

    Over efficient mash process?

I use it all the time and have used it for the past 2 years, I really like it and find it very reliable

    Over efficient mash process?

In response to the first question this was overnight mash no 3 I think but I can't remember what happened and didn't take detailed enough notes to comment on efficiency of the other 2 overnighters. Anyway better notes next time. With regard to the OG I haven't done the calculations just...

    Over efficient mash process?

I wonder can someone give me some advice on my Mash process? I have just put a new brew in the fermenter and as always use Beersmith to make a recipe. I did an overnight mash and batch sparged thereafter. I hit all the temperatures but when it came to the OG I massively overshot. Target...

Hi there I am putting the finishing touches to a new recipe I put together, here is the Beersmith output, its a 19 litre All Grain brew - I'm calling it Astoria Pale Ale. It has Hop Oil as the dry hop alternative too. If you have any suggestions I'd be most grateful - thanks Laith...

    St. Louis Dry Hopped APA

This is a great beer I just brewed inspired by a trip to St. Louis, Missouri a few years ago and developing a taste for a local beer there brewed by Schlafly (www.schlalfly.com). I am currently drinking this one and even after only a few days in the bottle its already tasting great, highly...

    GW Book versus BeerSmith 2

Thanks for the feedback, not sure there's a simple answer on this one but I have reviewed the ingredients and % colour/bitterness and that's helped greatly albeit with more of an approximation on the colour on Beersmith2

Igloo coolbox - temp gauge - yes or no?

I haven't done anything with the lid, thanks for the tip I think I will drill and use the expanding foam option as that should be pretty straightforward

Igloo coolbox - temp gauge - yes or no?

Thanks for all the comments, one more question regarding insulation - do those with an Igloo give it any more insulation or are they good as they come? just thinking about wrapping it in silver bubble insulation or something too?
