    Brupak, Linthwaite Light Ale Review

I've just brewed one of these. It's been in bottles for 3 weeks now, batch primed with 5g of sugar per 500ml bottle. Its a glorious beer, nice ruby colour (not as light as the name might suggest), tastes almost like a Sam Adams american style beer. I've got another 30 bottles left, but suspect...

I'd do 1 white sugar lump, in a 275ml bottle. I think that's half a teaspoon. (3 grams) I like my beer pretty fizzy.

    TC success

Hi all, Prompted by all of the discussions on here, I started a few different batches of TC in April & May. I tried all sorts, Elderflower, pomegranate & Blueberry, Strawberry Ribena etc. Thinking....." These will be great in Summer......" Well Summer's officially arrived on the Moray Firth...

    Labels

Only put the QR code on there because the Avery label designer let's you do it. :-) I encoded my email + phone number in it. Unfortunately I printed them too small I guess and the QR doesn't scan.... never mind... The Avery labels are kinda photo-glossy paper, so they take the ink-jet print...

    Labels

Bottling day today, so rather than my usual hand-scrawled labels, I thought I'd have a go at printing them. Bought some fancy (not cheap) Avery glossy labels, and used their online label design tool. I lifted the logo from the Brewferm website. Quite pleased with the result.

Yeah. They're slightly bigger than the BrewFerm kits (10l I think) as you can brew them in their BruBox system.

    Brewferm, Diablo

Two sugar lumps is 6 grams, so not as much as it sounds. Works well for me. I mainly use glass bottles and crown caps, I have a few Grolsh pop-top bottles, and I like to do one or two PET bottles with every batch to help check on carbonation. Never done a double batch, having to clean only 18...

    Brewferm, Diablo

Since I started brewing in February this year, I've done LOTS of BrewFerm Triples and Diabolos. As they take 6-8 weeks to bottle condition, I started a Henry Ford style production line. These are my favourite beers, and at anytime I've got one or two in primary, one in secondary and a few in...

Educate me about non rinse cleaner please.

After much ball-ache, and much experimentation, I've finally settled on a sanitizing routine that I'm comfortable with, without it being too onerous. Golden rule is to rinse / wash FV and bottles immediately after use.. I use REALLY hot water, then a quick spray with star-san as I put them...

Bottle Green Blossom Cottage Elderflower Cordial

I tried this stuff a few weeks ago. Did a turbo cider, 3.5l of Tesco cheapy apple from concentrate (65p a litre), 0.5l Elder flower cordial, 300g sugar, yeast nutrient and a cup of stewed tea. It fermented out completely to 995ish after two weeks. I racked it and left it in the garage for a...

    Brewferm, Diablo

This (and the Triple) are my favourite brews, and I always have one or two on the go. I use 500g of candied sugar, and 9 litres of tesco "Perthshire" water to brew. Normally takes about 12 days in primary, and then I rack to secondary for another 2 weeks before bottling in 500ml bottles with 2...

    St Peters Golden Ale review

Well, nearly a week later, and I've "sampled" a few more of these. The strong hoppy taste has mellowed a touch, and it doesn't taste quite as chemical-y . My mistake with this brew has been over-carbonation. I normally drink Czech pilsners, and other strong European lager-beers, so like a...

    Brupaks, Fixby Gold Review

I've just bottled 40 bottles of this. I also noticed that the O.G. was very low, so added 1kg of light spray malt on a whim. It fermented very quickly, and my quality control samples during brewing all tasted really good. I left it 10 days in the primary, and a further week in a cooler...

    Magnum, Apple Cider Review

I bottled a batch of the Magnum Strawberry Cider a week ago. Just out of curiosity (or impatience), I tried a bottle last night. Tasted OK (a bit artificial) , carbonation was already pretty good. I also got a whiff of the eggy (sulphide ??) smell. Will leave the remaining 38 bottles...

    St Peters Golden Ale review

I've just brewed this one. It's been in bottles for just over a week, so I thought I'd give one an early try. Beer has carbonated nicely, and it's clear. But, there's an over-powering bitter hoppy taste to it. Hoping a few more weeks in the bottle will tame the bitterness. Maybe I shouldn't...

    Septic Tank

Thanks all, Will look into using Star San instead of the VWP stuff.

Hi - Newbie from the Highlands

Thanks. I did bring the barrels back in for a week or so, but ran out of space in the brewing room (utility room), so they're back out in the garage again. Can you resurrect beer like this ? All of the brewing instructions I've read say keep the beer at 20° while carbonating . The only...

    Septic Tank

We tend to avoid using bleaches, and use "eco" brands wherever possible. We also pay for the tank to be emptied occasionally, but if it's working correctly, there should be no need to. The accepted wisdom is that we should scrape up some fresh road-kill every now and then and throw it in the...

    Septic Tank

Hi all. Up here in the Highlands of Scotland, I'm well off the mains sewage system, all of my ah'em "waste" goes into a septic tank in the field , where it's supposedly digested by "bugs" before draining away in the soak away. In theory the "nice" bugs which digest my "output" are the same...

Hi - Newbie from the Highlands

Hi, The missus bought me a home-brew kit for my Birthday in February... Never one to do things in half measures, I've become seriously addicted to brewing. We're brewing wine (3 demi-johns on the go at any one time), and various beers (I love Belgian and Czech beers). So far, I'm just...
