Plate chiller is best Imo try clicking on the malt Miller linkat the top he sells them or try ebay

You will still get break material even with a hop stopper i do when running through my hop stopper and then 2 very fine filters on my plate chiller it won't affect the brewing your worried just rack it off the fermenter into another livingthe bbreak behind

I've heard of using pop bottles full of ice to chill just obviously be careful not to go over the top of the boiler

Personally speaking I'd get my electrics checked by someone who knows what they are on about chances are your garage has its own ring main but I doubt it will cope with both elements running at once you could run an extention from a separate ring in the house

My herms gets flushed through with water after, hoses are all silicone and get used for recirculating the wort anyway so no need to sanitise only thing is my plate chiller which gets flushed with some videne mixture then flushed with water, taps are all used for under letting and bottom feeding...

10.24 seems high to me I'd be looking for 10.10 ish it may have slowed or stalled try giving it a shake to wake the yeasties up have you checked the calibration of your hydrometer

We have all had days like that i broke two hydrometers a sample jar and had a boil over all in one brewday oh and ran out of yeast
