Brewing Training what is out there?

looking for training for a change of direction in my life

i see herriot watt do a distance learning course
the institute of brewing do a course online

has anyone done any of these?
are they any good?

is it best to have a job offer first?
are there any others?

I'm considering doing some of these myself as they look very good and you can mix and match to an extent.

Does anyone know how these certificates are regarded by the rest of the UK industry? I wouldn't fancy spending the best part of £4,000 for something that a potential employer would not recognise or acknowledge.
