right guys very new to this game just been offerd 12 DJ for free picked them up and 3 were brown been told they are used for something elts than friut ciders im makeing now but have no clue what for any one help me with this

Brown is for anything that natural light might bleach the colour out of. I don't think artificial light is a problem - it's the UV that does it, I think.
But all mine tend to be wrapped up in insualtion or down the back of the garage anyway, so it makes no odds.
 
I don't use them for fermenting in as I cannot see the sediment, but I use them for storing my wines. If I have a red wine on the go I ferment them in clear DJ's either with foil wrapped around or with a black material bag my sister-in-law made for me.
