Checking Gravity

Can someone tell me is it ok to take lid off my fermenting tub and check gravity, been on the go for 4 days now. Can i check then put lid on again and seal?

Absolutely, just make sure that your hydrometer had been sterilised before you do it. :thumb:

I would suggest transferring a sample into a hydrometer jar using a sterilised turkey baster or similar. Then you can take your reading and drink the sample....

4 days isn't very long. I'd leave it at least a week before having a look.

this is why i bought a second FV with a tap on - makes this bit a synch.

but yeah, you're fine to go ahead. I'd personally just sanitize a pint glass, get about half a pint by scooping it up and then reseal. that way you can take your reading, give it a taste etc and the lid is only open for a few seconds!
