Does anyone know if it is possible to buy cider yeast in bigger quantites than 5g packs? £1 odd per brew sounds expensive when other ingredients total £2.50

reuse the yeast, you can wash it for longer storage or just give the dregs a swill, take the suspension and reuse that straight away :

If it isnt a silly question - how do you wash yeast? Im assuming that it is in the dregs at the bottom after you have syphoned out the good stuff?
