Hello all,

I just bought one of these (the 7.9 US gallon version) and I see that I'm provided with a roll of PTFE tape to seal off the vertically-oriented entry and exit ports on the union valve (where the fermenter body and collection ball fit into it respectively). Having used PTFE tape on the odd DIY plumbing job, I'm not a great fan (I always seem to find it hard to get it to lie flat around the threads and end up stripping it off and redoing it multiple times). I'm not sure what the manufacturer's thinking behind using this stuff is but I was wondering if I could substitute the tape for a couple of suitable size rubber washers. Can anyone tell me why this wouldn't be a good idea?

Regards, Gerry

Ptfe tape when used correctly is very effective, you put the tape on the thread anti clockwise ,put about four to five turns on ,and then use your finger nail to smooth it into the threads ,job done
