Planted a couple of grape vines out in the back garden, chalky soil, southerly aspect. Maybe I'll get some grapes eventually. What nobody warned me about is slugs! Should have known ... when the first leaves appeared they got promptly damaged by slugs. I am not keen on chemicals but I put out a generous helping of slug pellets. The smaller weaker vine is developing a new shoot. On the larger one there are a couple of buds which might grow. Perhaps the shock of the nibbling might generate some strong growth, and a bit of sun might help too.
I am no expert and it's just an experiment, and I am not expecting any kind of harvest before the plants are established, if they survive at all. Seen a few older threads on vine growing.
Watch out for slugs!
